In this video, they make it through the craziness, only to go around after landing (the aircraft behind them also goes around). On the go-around, they get overflown by the trailing aircraft.
Hearing reports of the insanity of arrivals into Oshkosh this year, I'd like to see the video. Share any that you have, or find!
These guys had to try at least 3 times. At 7:50, I can easily make out four airplanes. Which is pretty impressive for a wide angle camera.
I am hoping multiple airplanes had video rolling during that time. With so many planes in the air, there's got to be some. I'll bet lots of batteries died after the 20th lap though.
Please banish this thought from your mind. As much as we all like to rag on the FAA, they really do want to prevent things like this happening. Call and confess and get your butt down safely. Forget the FAA.
FWIW, I've been using the Gulf Coast $250 ANR headset and it has worked well for occasional flying. Obviously, if you have the cash and will get good use out of them, the Lightspeed/Bose will be superior. But don't automatically dismiss lower-end offering as junk. They can get the job done.
The field is shut down for arrivals and the controller is the bearer of bad news.. dumb to argue on the air, but somewhat understandable for people who've been trying to get in for hours!
If everything worked smoothly, I think an arrival into Oshkosh would be fun. When things get crazy, like right now with all traffic suddenly having to break off the arrival line, that would make me very nervous.
Great job on sticking with it. Sounds like you're on your way. Don't fret the landings, it will come back. And nobody lands perfectly every time anyway.
Podunk, Iowa? Isn't that redundant?
Your book has been very helpful to me, Bob. I was just curious if the phrase "Podunk Traffic" for hypothetical scenarios was in common use before it, that's all.
Flying isn't for everyone, but you need to give it more time. Temporary discouragement is normal.
That being said, I'm not sure I would think flying is so "awesome" if I had to do it all the time for a paycheck. To each his own though!
