B-17 Down at Bradley Int'l Airport

Just curious, by why is this? Gut feeling? We know the statistics are stacked against us. Flying is simply risky. If you're 6 times or so safer than the average pilot, you might be approaching the safety level of driving. But in that case you're probably a safer driver too.

    NOT another DUI question

Just to be clear, did you have your 3rd class when this event occurred?

Hey young people, tell us what you can do!

I make films. Living in farm country, most of them are about agriculture and family farms. Here's my latest:

    "...." iPhone status icon?

To answer your question, yes, the iPhone is a status icon!

Piaggio Avanti on the ramp... would it have been rude to take a picture?

Fair enough. I think most pilots "get" it. Try doing this regularly with other private vehicles though (cars, boats) and I'm guessing the reception will be a bit more chilly.

    “Bargain” $1,000 phone?

All valid points, and interesting perspective, except that 90% of the time they're used to watch cat videos. Before phones, not everyone purchased compact cameras, GPS devices, MP3 players, and certainly not aviation navigators. And those that did often kept them for 5+ years of occasional use...

The wife found a stiffy this morning...

Slight tangent, but what would happen if you followed the "Don't Talk to the Police" advice after calling this in?

Dorian - Here we blow again....

This doesn't completely answer the question, but between 1970 and 2004, 3,612 people died due to Winter Weather. 304 died because of hurricanes and tropical storms. https://www.prb.org/disasters-by-type/

    Publication using my pictures

Good, sounds like everybody came to a reasonable solution. The part where he talks about a web site that didn't carry a clear copyright notice, which is a common source of photographs for us bothers me though. No copyright notice is required. OK, if they both produce a photo that has value in...

    Publication using my pictures

Simple rule, copyright belongs to the photographer (there are special rules about some buildings though, as noted above). I saw a news article where a celebrity copied a photo that someone else had taken of them, and shared it on their (the celebrity's) social media. The photographer filed a...

    Publication using my pictures

You may think that the photo is a throwaway, but the fact that a major publication used it shows that it has considerable value. Look at the other photos in the publication; Many of them cost lots of $$$ to obtain. "Acknowledgement" is not good enough when using a photo without permission (fair...

    172P crash at my field

Wow, the 172 is truly an amazing airplane. A pilot is doing about everything possible to kill himself and the plane, and in response he gets (relatively) gracefully dropped into a parking spot at low speed.

    Boeing 737s Grounded

Mmm, Hakkapelittas. I ran circles around a friend in an F150 with my old station wagon, on snowy mountain roads, all thanks to a modest investment in Finnish snow tires.

    Tesla charging gets 2x faster

Ha, that's a great image. It would ruin the "out of sight, out of mind" charade of green vehicles though. The implications for the grid as EVs becomes more widely adopted will be interesting.

    Tesla charging gets 2x faster

The way I look at it, a road trip with a Tesla now is somewhat of an adventure. Kind of like flying. You have to plan out your stops, deal with a little extra inconvenience, etc. But often on a road trip, I just want to get there. I don't want an adventure.
