Filing IFR for a VFR Flight?

11 yrs at Kansas City Center. They process in the system when a controller types it in but if you file on you Ipad or DUATS a VFR flight plan, it does not come into the center.

LSA weight requirements Sling vs RV

Loved your video on the Sling 4. Actually have an hour in that very aircraft.

LSA weight requirements Sling vs RV

Comanche 250 with a lot of mods, Tip tanks, gap seals, wing root fairing, brake reversal with wheel covers. Get 160ish TAS on 12.5gph, 1000NM range with 45min reserve etc etc. I paid $50 and put about $20K into it, so about the 1/3rd the cost of an RV10

Filing IFR for a VFR Flight?

I think you are unaware of the volume of aircraft that VFR and IFR flight plans would generate. That would slow down the whole system. It would degrade the services provided to IFR planes at the expense of someone wanting to track their flight of Flight Aware. Just file IFR (file a low altitude...

Filing IFR for a VFR Flight?

They might at an approach facility but they DO NOT process at the Center. OTP will actually process because its an IFR clearance to climb on top and obviously block altitudes will too because they are IFR. If you file a VFR flight plan off one of my airports, there will not be a proposed...

LSA weight requirements Sling vs RV

I have time in both the Sling 4 and the Sling 2. Both awesome flying machines. I am one of the few that does actually compare the RV10 and Sling 4. I Currently own a plane that beats an RV10 in all areas except for modern avionics, but I still find myself looking for an efficient 4 seater. The...

Filing IFR for a VFR Flight?

As a Center Controller, I wouldn't do this. If a flight plan doesn't have a "hard altitude" request, the flight plan will not process at a Center, so whats the point? Why not just file IFR? We do not get VFR departure strips for aircraft in our Departure list. In KC Center we do work aircraft to...

    Any info on this Grumman??

It's a good looking Tiger! I think it had a few little damage dings in the log books but nothing bad. I'm based at LXT and it was sitting out here for a bit last summer. I'd walk over every so often to look at it. Haven't seen it around for a few months (might still be here in a hangar). The low...

    Colorado Springs

Its completely doable! I'm laughing at some of these comments. You can still have fun and be safe at the same time. I literally just flew home yesterday from Granby, CO to Kansas City. I did some snowboarding at Winter Park and Mary Jane. We had a choice of taking my Comanche 250 or My buddy's...

For Sale Removed Avionics for sale

Would you be willing to sell any of the JPI wiring separately? Interested in the P1 cable in the picture for a buddy.

    Icon A5 Prices Rise

Actually it was a joke to show how stupid expensive the A5 is. Personally I don't care about your medical situation. Such a weird response......

    Icon A5 Prices Rise

Why someone would pay this insane amount for an LSA is beyond me. I'll keep my Comanche 250, buy a super nice Lake LA4-200 and fly on the remaining $250K+ for life.

    Garmin 250XL to Garmin 300XL

Thanks for all the info! It's crazy how complicated this crap can get. I could probably install a 300xl in little to no time. Sh*t, I did all the wiring on my custom mahogany boat which is certainly more complicated than my Comanche. My A&P is awesome and would certainly help but I'm not too...

    Garmin 250XL to Garmin 300XL

I know most people will say putting an older GPS into the plane isn't worth the trouble but I have a question. I am looking to make my plane a /G instead of the current /A. My partner in the plane isn't IFR yet (might be a year or two) and we've talked about putting the Avidyne IFD440 in. Money...

    ATC Privatization

The word is already getting out around air traffic controllers. We've even had controllers get emails from Southwest airlines directly stating the ATC is delaying them and they need to support Privatization. Southwest won't be getting any extra help with their shortcut requests immediately after...

This is why I do it

Super cool! I'm a Kansas City Controller and also the biggest aviation nerd. Over the last 10yrs here I've managed to get a lot of folks into aviation and try as hard as I can to get people up in my airplane. I think having a Controller that is also a pilot, provides a much better service! My...

    Used aircraft prices heating up?

I got my Comanche 250 for pretty cheap 1.5yrs ago but I still do a lot of online shopping. I too, have also noticed an upward trend in the under $75K range. My buddy is looking for his first plane (older Mooney M20C or Comanche 180) and those prices have gone up in the last six months. Good for...

    RC Allen Electronic instruments

Yeah, I'm interested in the RCA2600 with no mechanical gyros and the soon to be released Digial DG. They also have an emergency 1hr backup battery. I just thought it looked like a clean install that would look good in the Comanche. I'll check in with them at Oshkosh to see how it all would work...

    RC Allen Electronic instruments

Has anyone been thinking about adding the RC Allen Electronic DG and AI to their panel? All the talk about Garmin's G5 and Dynon D10, it seems like nobody is chatting about RC Allen. I like how they fit into the 3" holes and look really clean. No protruding screens and I particularly like the...

    4 place experimentals

Take a look at the Sling 4! There are lots of them out there worldwide and easy to build complete around $120k. 135ktas, 1000lbs useful and an airframe parachute (for the Cirrus Lovers). I have an hour in the demo plane and it's an amazing aircraft. I own a beastly Comanche 250 but I love the...
