    Discontinuance DE

Would seem the FAA disagrees with you. Completion of AOPA ASI courses satisfy the requirement for WINGS credit, which in turn satisfies the ground portion of the Flight review. But, I'm sure with your mastery of the regs you knew that already.

    727 crash

35' DER. Suuurrrreeee. Seriously though, hopefully there was a serious malfunction that led to this mishap and not just plain crew negligence. But first glance looks like another indication towards the less than safety conscious South American aviation culture.

Delta MadDog engine failure this morning!

Welp, there you have it folks. I guess it does happen occasionally, but far from SOP, in my (and as it seems, others here as well) experience.

Delta MadDog engine failure this morning!

IIRC, CFR response is based on pax load/capacity/payload type vs. fuel load. In 14 years and dozens of IFEs, never have we passed fuel remaining in pounds, just duration. Other may have other experiences, but that's mine.

What was going on with United at IAD this morning?

Takeoff Config warning? Instead of sorting on the runway, maybe pulling off to run through the possibilities? Can't imagine a flight control malfunction (that typically requires mx action) that can be remedied in the time it takes to clear and get back in line for departure. Kinda...

    2016 year in review

Yet another year without logging PIC (last was Aug 2012), but did manage 100+hrs of jumpseat G-V/550 time, as well as obtaining FE ticket and an additional 125 hrs in a 747 Classic. Not a bad year overall, but looking to get back in the left seat in 2017!

Aeronca Champion - Best airplane to teach how to land?

If I had ready access to a hangar, I'd be in the classic rag wing TW camp in a heartbeat. I don't have an opinion as to the benefit of flying a TW airplane, as I've never flown one, but for the type of flying I enjoy/mission of my GA flying, they fit my requirements the best.

Buying a 150 to get PPL, few questions

I think this is down the path of a non-equity partnership, or even establishing a small club? And the way I understand, 100hr inspections are not required for those types of operations, but would be if the airplane were to be placed on leaseback and rented to non-owner pilots.

    Private Aircraft Manager

Yes, there are aircraft management firms/companies. From what I have seen, the full service ones (like what you seem to be asking) usually handle corporate type aircraft mostly. As far as the guy who owns a 172 but doesn't much care for tracking inspections or other mx, can probably just build...

    2003 Cirrus SR22 vs 2000 Mooney M20R Ovation 2 Honest Comparison

In regards to MX, can a run of the mill A&P make repairs to the composite bits, or is one forced to use a Cirrus service center? I imagine finding a mechanic to work on composite is quite a feat, but will get easier as more composite aircraft hit the flight line.

    Buying Cessna for flight training???

All very good points/observations. As long as the owner has considered the costs and consequences, and makes their decision to finance or buy outright based on their own personal limits and capabilities, then I say go for it!

Piper Warrior - Major overhaul options for high-time engine

Your future plans for the airplane should play into that decision as well. If it were me, and I planned to hang on to the old girl for the long haul, I'd hang a shiny new hamster wheel on it and fly on. Others may only do what is necessary, and not a bit more. Can't argue with either...

    Buying Cessna for flight training???

This is the U.S. of A. and it's 2016! There's financing for everything! In all seriousness, yeah, I see your point. My point is, that not everyone has the means or cold hard cash lying around to purchase an airplane AND be able to plunk down another chunk to R2 an engine without getting...

ready for the "told ya so"

If everything checked out during the pre buy, why not negotiate a reasonable offer? Yes, the engine may be on borrowed time, but the airframe is solid and you like this specimen. Just don't be too upset when it's time to hang a new power plant on it. Enjoy the ride!

    Buying Cessna for flight training???

My take on this, and it's just my take, is if I have the means to pay monthly for loan, mx, fill in the blank airplane expense. Let's say just for easy math's sake that all adds up to $1k/mo. To buy a $35k airplane and then finance a $25k engine they day after I get the keys will take 5 years...

    2003 Cirrus SR22 vs 2000 Mooney M20R Ovation 2 Honest Comparison

Meh, I comprehend well enough to recognize when someone is too lazy to look up an answer, such as when you asked what 107gal of fuel weighed. But, since you're the OP for this thread and VERY new to aviation, you obviously haven't learned to do research for yourself and will gladly have others...

    2003 Cirrus SR22 vs 2000 Mooney M20R Ovation 2 Honest Comparison

An asterisk (*) is another way of expressing multiplication (x). Not really a flying thing, more of a 3rd grade math thing.

Class C - Before or after Engine start for clearance

I think it was mentioned above, but whether to (or not to) contact CD for VFR departure should be included on the ATIS for the airport, but may not be always. Lacking specific guidance, when in doubt, contact CD. Worst they can do is push you to ground. Regarding the OP, I've always contacted...

ready for the "told ya so"

Just out of curiosity, were the logs correct but just misrepresented in the ad? Not that it matters much, I suppose. I'm a bit of a layperson in the ownership realm, but am headed down a similar path pretty soon. If it were me, I'd try to negotiate a better price based on the higher time and...

First time buy - Archer vs Arrow?

You guys and your little bugsmashers. The OBVIOUS choice is a 747-8. Has the range, payload, and doubles as a flying RV. Pfftttt.
