How are the Part 121 pilots obtaining IFR clearances?

Honestly, not sure. I haven't spent much time at the super busy airports with a zillion different frequencies. I just looked it up in the Jepp airways manual ;) But no, the Cpt is not on every Jepp plate.

Can I install G5 in certied airplane?

Apparently the AI drives his autopilot, and the G5 isn't certified to drive an autopilot in a certified airplane.

How are the Part 121 pilots obtaining IFR clearances?

On a Jepp plate, it's a clearance freq for pre-taxi procedure.

Build XC time from the working non commercial crowd

If you ever seek employment, they will be looking for a certain amount of cross country. For those purposes, ALL cross country time is useable, not just the Pt. 61 >50nm time.

    414 Engine Beam Replacement

Ah, thanks for the explanation. Looks like a pretty involved repair. Just the price of doing business, I suppose!

    414 Engine Beam Replacement

Thanks for sharing, gents. Sucks that these projects seem to do little more than drain a bank account, but as long as that is accepted going in, I suppose it's worth it in the end. I've never seen under the cowling of a light twin, let alone the engine removed. @Lance F , is the "V" in your...

What's the deal with the Navy trainers?

Yeah, @Hacker , didn't you know the engineers design it to fail and contaminate the system?!? Pfftt, silly operators. /sarcasm off.

If ForeFlight could display the Jepp Charts....

Yes, I'd be willing to use FF exclusively. Trouble is, I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay Jepp price for the FF package!

Timing an ILS Approach or Not?

That's a tough way to find out the EVS boresight isn't calibrated properly and the EVS runway threshold is not where the actual runway threshold is. I guess you can try anything once, though.

How do small airports get ICAO/IATA codes?

Welp, there goes my theory! Lol

How do small airports get ICAO/IATA codes?

If I recall correctly, an ICAO and/or IATA code is assigned based on scheduled air carrier service to the field.

    Part 135 Maintenance Questions

I don't have a specific source, but have seen 135 certs for sale (some with aircraft and facilities included) listed on the various aviation for sale sites.

    Part 135 Maintenance Questions

I certainly wish you luck. I looked at it briefly for a flight seeing/air tours operation outside of 25nm from the based airport. It was too much red tape for the level of operation I wanted. Just another random thought regarding purchasing an existing certificate: Maybe find someone...

    Part 135 Maintenance Questions

The other obstacle that I noted was that the operation had to have possession of the aircraft before the application for a certificate could be processed, since it's tied to each serial number, not just type. Assuming capital is not a factor in your prospective operation, that may not be an...

    Part 135 Maintenance Questions

Yep, that's wat I was thinking of, the Director of Maintenance. You're right. No, the FAA doesn't care what you pay them, but a decently qualified DOM will care ;) For an operation of only 1 or 2 airplanes, I imagine the DOM and mechanic will be one in the same. When I briefly looked at 135...

    Part 135 Maintenance Questions

If I understand pt. 135 mx ops correctly (I'm no expert, just from cursory research I've done myself), the mechanic on the certificate is supposed to be an employee, much like the chief pilot, director of operations, etc. If that's the case, you may be looking more for a salary to pay annually...

777 almost hit San Gabriel Mts Friday

Most modern glass cockpits have TAWS(Terrain Awareness) and EGPWS(Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning). I believe, but not sure, that part 121 aircraft require some variant of both, in addition to TCAS. Not sure how this info is displayed in a 777, but i'm sure it's there somewhere. There were...

Closed Central Texas Pilots - Free Photos

Nice. Do you hand hold while flying, or is there some sort of mount you use?

Closed Central Texas Pilots - Free Photos

Nice photos, Jack! What kind of setup do you use? I'd love to get into aerial photography myself, but life and my real job are the current roadblocks. I have been able to snag a few commercial shoots on the ground though. BTW, I'm nowhere near Central TX, otherwise I'd take you up on this!

    Discontinuance DE

Well, in that case, I stand corrected. Either I misunderstood when the program was explained to me or it wasn't explained correctly and I never bothered to follow up since it's a moot point for me as I am required to complete an annual check ride with the club I fly with (which exceeds FR...
