    Question about airline go arounds

May depend on the airframe/mx requirements. In every airplane I've flown in, a "cycle" has been defined by different criteria. The 707s I flew, a T/O & Landing (not go-arounds) was an engine cycle. The 747, we don't count engine cycles, but instead pressure cycles, so flight above 10k is what...

    Foreflight Hacked ?

When the EFB replaces paper, more than just briefings are affected. I fly (VFR only at the moment) completely paperless. I use FltPlan Go on my iPad, with my iPhone as a backup. As I head into Instrument Training, I haven't decided if I'll stay with this configuration, or cary some archaic...

    Foreflight Hacked ?

We (my USAF Unit) have been paperless for a few years. We do, however, have our eggs in multiple baskets. Jepp FD Pro is primary, Jepp FD secondary, and ARINC Direct tertiary. With multiple crew members all sporting iPads and SOP being updating one database at a time (to ensure a good...

    Foreflight Hacked ?

If I were the patient awaiting transport, I'd be more concerned putting my life in the hands of a pilot who thinks FF is the only source of weather data.

    Show us your Christmas Tree

I'm pretty late to the party here, but we had a pretty crappy Thanksgiving and first week or so of December. Alas, the show must go on, so I present our Christmas Shrubbery for 2017... ETA: The highest ornament (not really visible in the potato quality image posted) is a polished C170. If...

    55" Samsung for $498 - Is there a catch?

We have the 58" of this series. Went to the store to buy this exact model (at Best Buy) and the 58" was a mere $100 more, so we went with the bigger model. If you look around, you may be able to find a similar deal. I think someone else mentioned it earlier, but Wal-Mart does have unique...

    Part Time Airline Pilots

More likely to find this arrangement in the 135 world. Contract crews (pilots and FAs) pretty much keep the wheels turning there to cover vacations, illness, etc when the entire flight department consists of 2-3 pilots and 1 FA.

    Finding Locked Threads

The whole thing went off the rails when the SZ was closed with no replacement venue, thus drawing conversations like that into the general population of PoA, subsequently giving the MC the ability to drop the ban hammer on anyone they want, whenever they want, all in the name of RoC violations...

In which decade did you start college?

Graduated HS in 2000, enlisted in the AF early 2001 and started classes the same year. 9/11 happened and work got busy. Picked classes back up in 2012 and graduated BS Business Admin earlier this year. Now I'm mulling over Masters or some sort of trade/certification instead...

    Last US Carrier 747 Flight

Im not sure, but the rumor on the street is that due to the full length double deck precludes the loading of outsized cargo, even if they could manage to install a cargo door(s).

    Air Force evaluating enlisted pilots.

Regarding Enlisted pilots in the USAF (DISCLAIMER: I'm Enlisted aircrew w/17yrs time in service): Can we do the job? Yes. Is it a good idea? Maybe. For a program such as this to take hold and work, there needs to be a HUGE culture shift internal to Big Blue, both on the E and O side of...

    Most memorable experience

I've been fortunate enough to experience several memorable moments since I've been flying. Some in the work airplane, and some in a smasher of bugs. In no particular order of memorableness: 1.First Solo 2.Solo XC in Alaska, landing at a gravel strip and having to take a selfie as proof I was...

    Last US Carrier 747 Flight

I consider myself fortunate to still be able to fly one of the last remaining 747-200's in the US. It's an awesome airplane, but with the technological advances in engine efficiency and reliability, it's pretty foolish to still sink gazillions of $$$$ into R&D and Operations of 4 engine pax...

    Time for Digital Logbook

Yeah, I picked up on that. He has an awesome product, and I'm by no means a computer/code guy. I've tried the free trial of pretty much every pay to use e-log out there. Like I said, for the price he charges for MyFlightBook, it's by far the best bang for the buck. I also understand the pay...

    Time for Digital Logbook

I certainly will! I'm not sure what it is. Of the electronic logbooks I've used, Pilot Partner has the slickest (if that's a word) interface, but I'm not sure I want to pay ~$30/yr for it. MyFlightBook is a solid product, but it does seem a bit cumbersome to me when making log entries, a...

    Time for Digital Logbook

Haven't seen it mentioned here, but I use Pilot Partner. I use PP, MyFlightBook, an Excel spreadsheet, and a paper log (all in the search for the best option for my uses). The interface Pilot Partner uses was a bit tricky at first while I transcribed data, but its pretty slick now...

    Busted Bravo Today

I've come close a few times under the BWI shelf. Especially on the warm summer days with updrafts tossing me around, when I let myself creep up just a bit too much. Mistakes happen, action or not, lesson learned and move on!
