    Alaska CFI

A 3rd vote for the flight seeing ops out of Talkeetna. It would be a pretty cool adventure to fly your own plane around Denali, but an even better one, IMO, to hitch a ride with a pro and enjoy the scenery.

    [NA]iPhone shopping[NA]

I went from a 6S to an 8Plus shortly after the 8/8Plus were released. I love the performance increase, but I prefer the smaller size of the non-plus variants. When it's time to upgrade again, I hope there will still be something on the market that is not a mini iPad mini.

Southwest oopsie - ‘woman partially sucked out of window’

Doesn't really matter in a loss of cabin pressure at high altitude, they aren't pressure masks, just a breeze flowing across your face. Once lower, yeah they might help some...

    Logging >50nm Cross Country Flights

How about taking the CFI on the 1500nm X-Cntry? Would be a bit pricey, but the experience gained would be well worth the cost. I learned to fly in Alaska, where a cross country was, in my mind, a near death defying adventure for a newly minted PP. Once I moved to the east coast, it took quite...

    3-Day IFR Adventure

Looks like an awesome trip! A good taste of what the flexibility of having the rating can get you. I'm just now getting started on IR myself. Enjoy the rest of the training!

Practice Routine for Keeping Skills Sharp?

I don't have a particular routine, so to speak. I will sometimes pick a few things to work on if I'm flying just to be flying (as opposed to trying to get somewhere). I might practice slow flight for a few minutes once I'm established enroute. Once I get to my destination airport, maybe a VFR...

What plane are you daydreaming about today?

I've been lusting after classic taildraggers lately. After wrestling with which direction I want to go in aviation, I keep coming back to low and slow. Flying is my passion, a type of therapy for me. What better way to do it than in a piece of history, 500'-1,000' AGL, and 70ish knots?

Pictures taken from my Front Yard..

I miss walking out my front door and seeing a similar view. We lived in Anchorage for 3 years. Would love to go back!

    Oshkosh - 2018

Yeah, i've seen that. I'm more thinking about the getting to/from the midwest from the east coast. I'd like to have the option to not be grounded by a low cloud layer that's only 500' thick ;)

    Oshkosh - 2018

The Frau has given me the go ahead for a solo trip (she has no interest in spending a week transiting to/from OSH with multiple hot, sweaty days wandering around a flightline in between). I'd love to fly out, but I've made the decision that I will only make the trek if I have my IR finished by...

    Oshkosh - 2018

Well, most of us are mired in the midst of winter, and we are 188 days from the start of Airventure 2018. I saw the other thread about securing hotel rooms, and that seems to be quite futile at this point. I'm kicking around the idea of making my first trip to OSH this summer, using a club...

The why did they do that, thread, Cirrus edition

Point not missed. There are plenty of aircraft with oddly placed CB panels/switches. Like I said, I've never flown a cirrus, but take Gulfstream for example. Critical CBs are directly behind the Pilot/CoPilot heads. Without having a 99% idea where certain breakers are by feel/memory, an EP...

The why did they do that, thread, Cirrus edition

I guess every airplane ever manufactured was flawed, then. All those breakers that all look the same. Those that have mentioned putting caps/grommets on the important breakers, you are on to something. I'm not sure how many Cirrus pilots rent their aircraft (vs those that own/partner in a...

Annual Expense of Flying an ELSA (Good News & Bad News)

Hey! Didn't you read the other thread where it was determined that if you track/calculate your expenses, you can't afford to own? Guess it's time to get that financial elephant off your back. I'll take one for the team and offer the first bid. $1.

    Airline ATC term

Whenever I’ve heard it used with our crews is current Mach until 280kts. Not sure if it’s in the pilot-controller glossary, but it seems to be an acceptable phrase.

    My 2017 Aviation Expenses

There’s always one. Nowhere in this thread did anyone say they “had”to count each penny. Some just do it for the sake of doing it. Or they actually have a budget and want to know how far over/under they are. We get it. You have enough discretionary income to not worry about how much owning...
