    Pilot induced discrepancies

Can't remember who it was, but long story short, someone here replaced the lights in the TC. When the TC was reinstalled, it wasn't properly clocked, thus resulting in the ball not being centered (I'm paraphrasing here, i'm sure someone will be along shortly to tell me how incredibly wrong I am).

    Tiedown engine pre-heat

Luckily, my days of sub-zero temps are behind me. Here in the mid-Atlantic, it's cold if it's bellow 30*F. So, if I understand correctly, preheat with cowl plugs in most cases will be sufficient here.

    Tiedown engine pre-heat

If you don't have access to electricity and find yourself in the back country, you may have to resort to techniques and work arounds, no matter how inconvenient they may be. My personal choice of preheating, in order: 1. Heated hangar (rented or FBO or friend's brother's uncle's hangar) 2...

    Tiedown engine pre-heat

I agree, if there is an FBO. My home base (FME) doesn't have one, and for now, the only hangars are occupied to capacity by other tenants. I have no experience with the red dragon, but it looks too similar to the salamander type heaters used is workshops. More than once, I've seen people use...

    Tiedown engine pre-heat

I think the OP was posing the question from a home basing point of view (a complete assumption on my part). Your suggestion of paying for a heated hangar, I believe, is what set of the tirade and insult response (certainly uncalled for not knowing a person's background). There are many of us...

    CFIing and protecting your *ass*ets

I tend to agree with this philosophy. Would establishing a LLC (like has been known to occur with aircraft) be a wise path? A CFI that I have used several times over the years has set one up for his CFI business purposes. Kinda curious if it would protect his assets.

which ipad app for in-flight viewing of PDF files?

Another vote for GoodReader. We use it at work for the exact purpose you described.

    iphone calendar infested

If you have the calendar option for appointments to be added from email, that's probably what's happening. The emails probably have dates imbedded somewhere, and those are being added to your calendar. I ended up turning that feature off.

average labor cost to change 2 main tires on 210?

So what happens when the aircraft slips off of your home made jack setup, puncturing a wing, all whilst accomplishing a task not required by the Mx Manual?

average labor cost to change 2 main tires on 210?

Don't think there really is a camp to be in. If a task such as a gear swing is required by the AMM, then the gear gets swung. If it's not required, it's customer option. If the A&P refuses to RTS the aircraft without completing a task not required, then it's time to either find a new mech, or...

Is there a "correct" call sign for the PA-28R?

This makes sense and is a great way to distinguish yourself also to other traffic in the area. It can be helpful to others on frequency to know what kind of airplane to be looking for, or to help plan spacing if ATC hasn't done so (i.e. "follow the Cessna on 3 mile final"). It's good to know...

    767 Fire At KORD

Could also be the engine windmilling after shutdown. It takes a while for that big fan to stop turning.

    747 takeoff distance?

If I'm reading that correctly, that chart is for the total distance required, which would include accelerating to V1, losing an engine, and continuing the takeoff or aborting. This doesn't depict takeoff ground roll alone. And, it's for a -8 which may or may not be the same model of 747 in...

    Savannah, GA

Signature is better than Sheltair, but I've never been to KSAV in anything smaller than a G-III. YMMV. Definitely stay downtown in the historic district. Worth the cab ride to/from the airport since parking can be difficult and/or expensive. I enjoy staying at the Hilton DeSoto. It's close...

    Today @ KJQF

I just happened upon this myself. We were passing through. I think it was there as part of the festivities at the race in Charlotte this weekend. There were a handful of other warbirds, including 5 P-51s, a T-6, and a few other WWII era airplanes.

Dual GPS quit sharing coordinates on iPad

I'm having this issue myself now. I've tried all the fixes I have found on the interwebs. The Dual sends it information to a host of other aviation related apps, just not Foreflight. I am running the most current iOS. Any more ideas? Thanks.
