    $$$training costs$$$

Wow ..those must have been the days lol my private cost me about 10500 at somewhere around 44 hours when I was ready for the ride, didn't go till I had about 58 though due to multiple cancellations for weather

You must live somewhere really cheap to be able to get all that done for 35k. At $145 an hour for the plane and $55 an hour for an instructor where I am, you could MAYBE get your Commercial SEL with Instrument for 35k, assuming you finished everything in the minimum allowable hours, and that's...

    Routing question - forgive me I'm stil a n00b

Yeah, it's not really a big deal, but mostly just curious as to why it works out that way. Maybe tonight when I fly that route I'll put in EMI HAIGS as my routing and see what I get back. It is a little easier to just put a fix in and follow GPS the whole way rather than waiting for 2 VORs to...

    Routing question - forgive me I'm stil a n00b

*still So, the last few times I've flown from KMTN to KHGR, I've gotten the following routing: EMI EMI321023 HGR Once airborne however, both times I've been cleared direct HAIGS then direct KHGR (or very shortly thereafter) It appears to me that HAIGS is in the exact same place as EMI321023...

    Heartbroken student

Wow your instructor sounds like a real piece of work, count your blessings that he did that for you. My instructor had been teaching at my school for about 5 years and I was the first student he had (so he says) that solo'd part 141 in 14 hours, and I was only flying once a week. Giving up on...

Engine Loss: Which Airport do you go for?

Good article, I picked the "correct" airport before I read the article, but in real life I'd probably take a look at the sectional and terrain on the way to both. If the downwind airport didn't leave me many options except the runway, and the other had some nice fields, a nice long empty road...

709 AS Dover AFB UPT Candidate Board

Yeah, that's the path I'm on now anyways, but figured it certainly couldn't hurt if by some miracle I was able to get a waiver. I would still be building time to get to the airlines obviously, though I guess not as much or as quickly as I could going the CFI route.

haha I'm an idiot, I realized that just now and came back to adjust, not sure why I was thinking Ohio.

709 AS Dover AFB UPT Candidate Board

Haha, I contacted the POC, I'm only 5 years over the limit so we will see. Being prior mil I know there is generally a waiver for everything, but finding someone to be a champion for you and go through the motions is the hard part.

709 AS Dover AFB UPT Candidate Board

What are the chances of a waiver on the age for a prior Air Force veteran with his private and instrument rating (and working on commercial) ? Anybody know?

1st solo went well, 2nd one was more nerve racking

Haha...my first solo to the practice area I got a little overzealous and went further out than I was used to, at that time I couldn't quite remember how to enter an aiport into the GPS to get me back so it became my first lesson in dead reckoning, was a little nerve-racking for me too but don't...

    Instrument Rated!

haha well it wasn't 105, think we broke 100 though and humidity on Friday was off the charts. I guess I need to get used to it though because I'm planning on moving to Florida, Arizona, or maybe socal to flight instruct

    Instrument Rated!

Thanks for all the congrats! It definitely feels good to have that one in the bag, and now I can start taking some longer XC flights without having to worry too much about the weather grounding me somewhere. Still gonna have some pretty high minimums for myself, 1000 ft ceiling and 3 miles vis...

    Instrument Rated!

Haha mostly I just enjoy flying IFR way more than I do VFR. Probably a lot of it due to flying in the Baltimore/Washington area

Good luck when you go for yours! As for waiting, well I've actually already started my commercial, I was finished with my instrument training back in early June but had 1 ride cancellation and it took another month or so to get back in. That is probably solid advice but I'm in a 141 program...
