    Do Touch-and-Goes Instill Bad Habits?

I agree with earlier comments that a TnG is two separate maneuvers instead of single continuous one, and here is why. Every landing is a go around until proven differently. That is the conditions, the plane, and myself all have to agree that we are really going to settle on the runway before I...

    Flying without insurance

The real issue is not the value of the plane itself, it is the cost of having someone else hurt in an accident you caused. Even a very small metal bend can become a nightmare if your passenger suddenly says their back hurts from whatever caused that bend.

Possible SSRI Rx, for trouble falling asleept, but never taken

The standard answer is going to be to Contact Dr Bruce and do not mention anything else here on the board that someone with the power to make a decision could see.

What kind of bike do you ride?

I wish I had taken a Sexy road picture of at least one of these guys, but I thought I would go ahead and post a pic of some kind. On the left is my Wife's Honda Shadow 650, the middle is the 09 HD Heritage Softail, and the right is the Kawi KLR-650. In the background in my Specialized Tri-Cross...

    What to do....

LOL, everyone makes mistakes. But keep in mind that carb icing would not be an issue at 70 degree outside temps if the carp temps were not significantly lower than outside air temp.

What kind of bike do you ride?

Depends on what I am riding for. Most of the time it is the 09 HD Heritage Softail, but if I feel like throwing it around some I ride the 09 Kawi KLR-650. And if I am really in the mood for some fun the I borrow the 08 Suzuki GSXR-750 back from the friend I sold it to when my knees and wrist...

Does anyone still care about 3rd class reform anymore?

It will not affect me at all since I am on a special issuance, but I still want to see it pass. Like others I think a stronger version would have been much better, but an old saying went something like "to not let the perfect be the enemy of the good." I also think it is likely to pass since...

Would really like to hear your weather experiences

I can add a bit to this from my first Cross Country training flight last weekend. The trip from KLAA to Denver was pretty easy from a weather standpoint... not so easy for my very first time in controlled airspace, but that is another story. Our short stop in Denver turned into a much longer...

Did you get bitten by Friday 13th?

Friday the 13th lived up to its name this year for me. I am still a student pilot, so I decided to get in an hour of solo practice. Got permission to fly, took off in calm winds. Did one touch and go, and then went out to work on 45 deg turns and stalls. When I returned to the airport about 30...

    Reasonable Headsets

On the Halos and getting them ordered... If he has ordering off with no stock on hand, then contact him via email and he will put you on the list. The list gets first shot at the new stock for a week before he open it to general orders. At least that is what he did when I bought mine last Oct.

    Reasonable Headsets

I will second the Halo. I only have about 25 hours wearing them, but especially since it has been so hot lately I am much more comfortable than my CFI. The band on them bends, so they can be adjusted to be as tight or loose as you prefer. I have not had any issues with them being knocked around.

    Klingon under attack.

I cannot even imagine all the rights holders that Ready Player One must be having to deal with. A huge amount of them are still owned by Japanese companies, and have been out of production for many years. I can also see a few big companies here, I am looking at you Blizzard, starting up lawsuits...

    Solo on Tuesday!

Congrats, nothing like it for sure. I agree with the comments about having most of the jitters fade as soon as I applied power. As soon as it became about flying the plane my mind just focused on all the routines the CFI had been beating into me, and if I had to guess I would say that is a lot...

Transition from low wing to high wing?

A few people have commented on what plane you learn to fly in having an impact on what you fly and how you fly. While I agree that you may gravitate towards that configuration of plane at first when you get your PPL, I do not believe it will have the slightest effect in the long run. 95% of...

    Solo on Tuesday!

I feel for you. I had my first solo on Mar 9th, and have not flown since due to winds and some travel by my CFI. Everytime she is in town the winds are 15g26, and when she leaves they are flat 5 right down the center. I am starting to think the Universe is against me for some reason.

    Overnight Rental

Lots of places do longer term rentals. Almost all of them I have seen have a minimum flight hours per day as part of the contract. My local FBO will let me take the plane I am training in (Archer II) for an overnight with no specific flight times, but for say a three say weekend I believe it...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Well between weather, an instructor that travels all the time giving check rides, and scrubbed flights due to wind here in Colorado lately, it has taken a lot longer than I had originally planned, but I finally had my first solo flight today. We did 8 landings on Sunday in wind conditions that...

    Gah!!! Colorado!!!

Keep in mind the magazine size when selling as well. You cannot legally transfer the magazine if it has a "high capacity", which is defined as smaller than a lot of the magazines that used to come with a new weapon.

Class 3 to Class 2 question

My plan was to look into CFI as well as the other possibilities, so maybe I do not need to worry about it based on the replies above. I am already a certified Motorcycle instructor, and I just love that moment when a student realizes they can do something that scared them. Of course I do not...

Class 3 to Class 2 question

I took me six months, but I got my class 3 with restrictions. The restrictions are extra paperwork once a year, and more paperwork once every 2 years. I am on CPAP, and I take meds for RA. There are no actual flight restrictions, just the extra documentation needed. Does anyone have any...
