    Chatting while flying and "fingers"

Sounds like anyone who wants to chat in an airplane should get a ham license and pick an available frequency outside the aviation band.

    Landing in a valley

My most miserable flying experience to date was coming back to Cleveland from one of the Wings fly-ins, trapped between those mountains and a cloud layer that kept me at 4000 I think and into a 20+ knot headwind. I spent 3 and a half hours getting pounded up and down all the way back. Once I...

Always thought it was just a joke, but...

I am the Church A/V volunteer, but I’m also pretty introverted in person so my go-to move at concerts and events was to literally lurk and watch to see what I could learn, but not say a word. Now in the era of digital boards and YouTube tutorials, I’m mostly just looking to see if I know the...

    How does cloud surfing work?

    This is what I remember.

After 1.5 years and OVER $125k, I finally got my SI

Were you actually admitted to the hospital— as in transferred to a room with an inpatient status? A friend of mine had a similar dehydration incident that resulted in an ER visit, but he was never admitted, just treated and released. He’s not a pilot, but I would assume from a medical...

    WiFi Extender Jr.

Based on 10 seconds of googling, that extender should create its own network with a separate SSID and then forward the traffic between the two networks. Is that the way you have it configured?

The person who did this is a moron.

I found this video of the Detroit flyover from the cockpit. Can anyone find the drone?

    Detective work and social engineering

I think sometimes the way this scam works is that the thief sends the package to an unsuspecting third party then either steals it or comes up with some other way of intercepting it. So I wouldn’t be so quick to harass the addressee, because they might not be in on it.

    Blue Angels on flight aware?

I just saw this video on Facebook. In the first part of the video, is that white box a Stratus?

    Ohio

You used to be able to land at Sandusky KSKY and they would drive you to Cedar Point because they are just a couple miles down the road. Unfortunately they closed and I think Cedar Point’s athletic facility sits there now.

    Cessna 120/140 yay or nay?

As someone who has only flown a 152, how does the 120/140 compare?

Harrison Ford does it again ...

I would suspect that the recording we heard was edited to remove silence and calls to other traffic. So it actually could have been even more confusing. After reading back the hold short instruction, Ford might have even seen another plane depart the runway and been expecting even more an...

Harrison Ford does it again ...

The exchange I heard was: Ford (presumably responding to the hold short instruction): Hold short at Hotel ATC: Continue holding short of 25, traffic on the runway. Ford: Crossing 25 ATC: *Starts chewing him out* He acknowledged the hold short instruction. The next thing you would expect would...

    Ohio

This list was compiled on the Ohio Pilots Facebook group. On it, I can personally recommend Carol County, The Tin Goose Diner, Put In Bay, and Primo Barones. I’ve also heard great things about JP’s BBQ, but I’ve never been there. Restaurants for OH,PA,IN,KY,MI (feel free to share) OHIO Carol...

    Oshkosh 2020

I’ve heard somewhere that even when GAC fills up early in the week, VAC generally has room and doesn’t turn people away. Does that sound accurate?

    Zulu time on Apple Watch

Oddly enough, I learned last summer that London is not, in fact, GMT. I tried to use my UTC world clock, thinking that my hotel was 10 miles from Greenwich, so GMT should work. Unfortunately, Britain ruined that with Daylight Savings Time.

    Zulu time on Apple Watch

There’s a World Clock complication that you can set to UTC. I’ve got a “travel” face that I use along with some other stuff that’s at least amusing, if not helpful when I’m traveling.

First or Second half of week?

I’m thinking of bringing my 6 year old this year. It will be both of our first time. My plan right now is to go Thursday - Sunday because that saves taking a day or two off work.

Looking to rent Single piston aircraft for around the world adventure RTW.

Someone actually did this with one of the club planes I fly. They took the club president along for the ride, but I think it still counts. https://www.news-herald.com/news/ohio/group-returns-to-cuyahoga-county-airport-after-flying-around-the/article_48eefb37-7dad-5070-99c7-71d87d98788d.html

    DME Arc question

The only downside to that is that you don’t know where you are along the arc until the end. I haven’t done one in a while, but I do remember using the DME distance to control heading to stay on the arc, but still twisting the VOR regularly so I knew how far I had to go.
