    Checkride rant!

See below. This guy posted a rant about his [alleged] bad experience with a DPE trying to get a PPL checkride completed. Wow. I found the video very instructive, most particularly as exemplary of each and every hazardous attitude rolled into a single display. How many can you spot? To...

California is a governor's signature away from banning 100LL in 2031

Yeah, you're right. Sorry. I'll try not to confuse the issue with facts again.

"almost half"? :rolleyes2: What's your source for that 47% claim? I've added a number of links and quotes to back up every single thing I've written here, as have several others. Where is yours?

I didn't make the claim. Not my circus, not my monkey. This claim doesn't agree with the data - and is effectively impossible in any case, unless you crushed a few hundred million ICE powered vehicles within the past two years (China has more than 300 million road vehicles). Chinese EV sales...

You're not wrong.....but it's also not quite that simple. When EV charging can be done off-peak (at night), it doesn't require additional base load capacity. It may well require more local capacity WHERE THE CHARGING IS HAPPENING (which is not trivial), but it's effectively using excess...

California is a governor's signature away from banning 100LL in 2031

It holds. From the 2023 EIA report on China's energy infrastructure that I linked earlier: Meanwhile, China is still building coal generation faster than they are decommissioning old plants, and they are using dirtier grades of coal...

It's not an assumption. An EV in Oregon is very environmentally responsible. An EV in China is making matters worse. https://climate.mit.edu/ask-mit/are-electric-vehicles-definitely-better-climate-gas-powered-cars

I don't believe that this is correct. While we haven't grown our hydro fleet, our generation from hydro has not dropped: https://www.hydro.org/facts/

China is still building coal-fired electric generation plants. 75% of their electricity is fossil-fuel derived (61% coal), and that is the fastest growing segment of the generation fleet. In fact, over the past three years, they are getting less from [renewable] hydroelectric, not more. China...

Maybe you're too young to remember, but way back in 1975 catalytic converters were legally mandated on all new US cars as part of the 1970 Clean Air Act. Those cars required unleaded gas. That was 49.7 years ago......

You don't know what you don't know.

How do you calculate that? Even at $300/hour for a Seminole, [https://www.fivebravoaviation.com/aircraft-rental] that's only $60K. That is covering 100% of your flying while you're doing it, too. Doing the math, if you buy a $200K twin than needs $200K of upgrades and add in $60K for twin...

    Riding Mowers -Gas/Electric?

It should - and that includes the environmental cost of solar panel and windmill construction materials, rare earth metals, etc., as well as the cost of militarily securing the global trade lines for oil and LNG. Again, there is a lot of work being done in Europe and South America, and they are...

    Riding Mowers -Gas/Electric?

We actually just stopped farming row crops for feedstocks on 15 acres of the parcel. Too many chemicals, and no options for organic crops without a management commitment that doesn't make sense on this scale. Most of the land is now converted to maple and walnut; the remainder will be...

FAA could set a timeline for de-certifying 100LL, just as California has done. I'm not saying that it's the right way to do it, but it COULD be done by the FAA, if they were instructed to do so by Congress. It could also be done by the EPA, again under Congress' authority.

Contact your local congresscritter. The FAA reports to Congress, so if you want the FAA to change the rules (or if you want them to NOT change the rules), you have to start there. Personally, I see the fuel price comparison as a bit of a red herring. Sure it's a bit higher today to purchase...

You don't know what you don't know.

Option 3 - compare to the price of a comparably performing single. At $500K for a used Cirrus SR22T with everything 7-10 years old, you can buy a $200K twin and put in a lot of upgrades. Depending on the as-bought state of the plane, you may end up with something that is more "current", if you...

Talk Me Out of a Cirrus

Sure about that? Look at the initial price. Cirri are not inexpensive to purchase and that difference will pay for a lot of maintenance and fuel. I guess it depends on how many hours you fly and how long you keep the plane.
