I'd take this as gospel and run with it.

What a way to start training

Roughly 80% of new students quit before getting their PPL ticket, for a variety of reasons. Some can't get past the idea of soloing. Many get past the solo and the realization hits that there's a HUGE mountain of information to learn and memorize, written test to pass, harder and more precise...

(Long) A failed AI does not mean a failed vacuum pump

THIS is why the FAA moved paperwork mountains and found a way to (for them) shortcut the approvals on the new digital instruments to replace the vacuum powered instruments. I wasn't counting but you guys have listed dozens of failures from a pretty small sample size!

Saratoga down off Palm Beach, FL

It really isn't so much that dogs are that great, though I admit to having loved one (and still do) that touched me in ways no human ever could. The whole point is that there's a really prominent minority of humans that truly suck in almost every way, tips the balance in favor of the canines...

Yeah no. Even I am not going to pay wet rate plus instructor to try out for a job, lol. Good luck with all of that.

    What's legal ?

IANAL but I would say that since the claimed discrepancy is not part of any documented specification or procedure then it could be challenged at least. There has to be a higher authority within the FAA or the manufacturer of the crank to consult?

    VOR Check Question (Sheppard Air)

Yeah, you guys are thinking too new. Dual VOR's means two separate VOR's as it says, "Two units independent of each other except the antenna." You're getting stuck on the word "Dual" which in this instance just means "Not single" as in we added a hole in the panel and installed a second VOR and...

Dumb Question about Big A$$ Aircraft Piston Engines

War effort design method: 1) Acquire the biggest engine available. 2) Design an aircraft around it that will carry enough armament to go up against the enemy's aircraft at a speed higher than. 3) If possible squeeze in a bit of armor around the pilot. 4) When in doubt, ignore the cost, there's a...

What a way to start training

Could have been the starter switch, starter contactor, starter, not necessarily a dead battery, especially since the OP has stated that all the lights worked during preflight. It is what it is. Yeah, Cessna 152 trainer, weakish battery, lots of hot starts by students, wouldn't pop over. Hungry...

Cessna 414 down in Yorba Linda

Looks like part of a tree IN the fuselage, right through where the front seats would have been. Talk about adding insult to injury. Sad all the way around. That Boeing was right wing low and snap rolled left to inverted when it stalled, or are my eyes deceiving me?

    Dangerously poor fuel planning

I haven't looked at the weather, but the article said he was at 8,500... with the cold temps, I'm willing to bet the DA was maybe half that?

    Dangerously poor fuel planning

Boils down to our old friend "Get-home-itis" I suppose. States they were headed for Heber City which is only like 130 miles on... oh look, 100LL is $4.75 at Rock Springs. Rawlins is $4.80, should have spent the nickel. I feel for the guy, moreso his family.

    Dangerously poor fuel planning

Sadly true, what, 3 knots over five hours?

    Dangerously poor fuel planning

Well, normally we fly at higher altitudes for decreased drag, and in cruise, you lean the mixture. Average fuel rates and percent of power like every other performance spec ate based on standard temp and pressure. If you're not compensating for DA, the graphs lie. Or am I missing something?
