A little help for Pilot in Need #Harvey

Any reason given as to why? Have you called the press? This is just dumb... why would they do this? Did some local restaurant owner complain about the competition?

No, no... I'm right there with you. But as long as they keep paying us, we'll keep working. :) I often wonder where all of the really cool tech comes from that you guys get to play with. From what I've seen, it must be aliens, 'cause nothing useful could possibly result from the civilian...

Bluetooth Headsets, what are they good for??

Annoying is listening to an audio book and google maps at the same time through a car's bluetooth speaker. I never noticed how much she talks. "In 2 miles..." "In a quarter mile"... "turn right"... "continue on.. for x miles" "You are on the fastest route" "There is a faster route that saves...

flying a low level training route

I would happily show this thread to our FSO. I'm certain nothing I've posted crosses any lines. The truth is, in many cases, a fancy rendering doesn't help with understanding. I think it actually can detract in some situations (complex airspace).

flying a low level training route

What I really need is a use case or three that shows how a pilot would use the graphically displayed information for flight planning purposes. But the tail is wagging the dog... "Display this data." "Who's it for?" "You know... pilots." "What are they doing to do with it?" *crickets* I'm...

(Just for the record. I -do- know what FOUO means. :) I mean, I'd never seen an AP/1B. )

I dunno what that is, but it's easy enough to find a description of the MTR dataset metadata: http://ais-faa.opendata.arcgis.com/datasets/0c6899de28af447c801231ed7ba7baa6_0...

flying a low level training route

Anyway. I appreciate the input from the many experienced military aviators, both on my dumb threads and in general. And anyone who's actually worked the civilian contracting side of this knows how stove piped and isolated we can be. I once had a .gov go between that insisted that all questions...

flying a low level training route

Well, I can't get as detailed as I'd like, but if you were using something like Foreflight, and had the ability to look at the map / world in 3D, how would you want to see MTRs drawn? Not just as line you looked down on, but if you could get a 3D perspective, say, would it help your...

Bluetooth Headsets, what are they good for??

Just music, in my case. And tablet EFBs can issue audio alerts for all sorts of things. But me? I like music (or increasingly, audio books) on a long cross country. And I actually have used the bluetooth phone link. I like to call someone who's meeting me just before taking the active runway...

flying a low level training route

Ah. Cool. Thanks. We have a dataset describing MTRs and are trying to figure out what the data means so we can draw it in 3D. What's complicating it is the weirdness of the data. One of each segment's data is apparently AGL. So that triggers a debate about "Well, which terrain resolution should...

flying a low level training route

The data is for MTRs. But I'm not familiar with the group's use of this term. Are MTRs a thing? Or a term for a class of route types?

flying a low level training route

How is it done? I ask, because the data that describes them has the start altitude for a segment as MSL, but the end for the same segment AGL. I'm guessing this to allow for temperature corrections to the MSL altitude? Or... something? Are baro altitudes even used for the low level routes, or...

    Did I miss something? [NA]

It did. But the universe has nearly perfect uptime. It simply switched to one of the backup copies it keeps on hot standby. Didn't notice the switchover... did ya? It even edited out the cause of the core dump. Now, it doesn't always go this smoothly. Remember the alien invasion of '08? Or...

Man, I was trying not to say anything, but I see I'm not alone in thinking that this was all about the money. Not sure what I would do. Pretty sure what I'd like to think I'd do.

Lessons learned after getting my complex endorsement

Awesome. Come fly it. Show me sitting it down hard on the mains and not bouncing. I'd love to see the technique. We couldn't figure it out.
