Angle of Attack: True or False

So, you've a$$-raped yourself on the POA. No big deal; I admire your intellectual curiosity and the confidence to pose a thought-out question. I might humbly add that it wasn't thought-out as much as it needed. This ad-hoc committee has clearly illustrated additional dimensions to your posited...

    Thoughts on my logbook

Absolutely. This is what we chant about in our meetings (Cavemen of America). Just kidding. These are precious accomplishments and memories; I am moved by our similar attachment to them.

Jet in the water in Jacksonville

Runway 10 is 100* magnetic, it's reciprocal is 28, or 280*. Sounds to me that the jetliner was landed on a contaminated runway with a significant tailwind...uses up a lot of runway. Glad injuries were minimal.

    Cumulus Clouds and IFR

I like punching-through the smaller cu; if they're towering or dropping precipitation...forget it. It'll be (very) bumpy inside, and don't forget that it's not uncommon to pick-up ice inside just about any cu. Your "tolerable" level will become refined with experience, but every cu is a...

Is six point egt worth it on an O-470

I would say, yes. What all those engines have in common is that they are carbureted, rather than injected; they aren't designed to be run lean of peak particularly well. So, maybe an engine monitor would help in the early detection of a problem if one was pushing the engine the wrong way...

Is six point egt worth it on an O-470

With all respect to the advice above, don't forget that it's a solid o-470. Lean it 'til it stumbles, and richen back to smooth and you're good. They've been flown like that forever without adverse consequences. Sure, you can add a fancy digital analyzer, and maybe it'll save you a wee-bit of...

Six killed when plane from Houston crashes near San Antonio

Sure. Gear extension heralds a commitment to land in OEI emergencies, But, in a forced-landing (regardless of cause), put your gear out once you've picked a touchdown area and commit to it! Indecision will kill you and all on board. Sorry if I sound harsh, but this is deeply serious stuff...

Six killed when plane from Houston crashes near San Antonio

It looks, to me, like a botched forced-landing after engine failure due to fuel exhaustion (I speculate on the fuel exhaustion part, but with landable surface nearby, I think it was a botched forced). These "great pilot(s)" are super-human until they aren't. Seems like an overloaded cabin, but...

Duke down and on fire, Fullerton CA

Watson (I presume)...you seem like an accomplished airman, being able to recognize the amount of recurrent training and drilling that goes into proficient (and safe) multi-engine procedures. I like the complexity of twins (and all that goes with that), but I got sick of paying the full hourly...
