    Airbus A320 Down

Crash pilot was as sane and evil as Adolph Hitler. It did not bother him killing all his passengers. He would have done it even if his passengers happened to be 149 children and puppies. Can't see blaming this on depression or Prozac.

    Best way to buy oil

I have bought AeroShell by the case from kellerheartt.com with good results. A better price and delivered quickly to my door. Local distributor is a 15 mile drive and more expensive.

Please help with Garmin G1000 Cessna NAV III database update

And, once you have a set of good cards, 2GB or less, only use them in their proper slot. Mixing cards will put the odd files where they do not belong.

    Flight Following is Fantastic

I like FF out here in the wide open spaces mainly for the separation service it can provide. The MOAs are large, busy and usually in the way of GPS navigation. I tend to avoid the hot ones, but egress and ingress traffic must be respected too. The past three months have seen T-6 Texans around...

    Favorite airliner and why?

When the seat reclines and has support for my legs, that airliner gets my highest rating. I last found this on a B747. For cabin noise, the A380 upper deck wins for me not needing my ANR ear buds. I never travel first or business. Looking forward to the day I'll experience the lower cabin alt...

Buying my first plane ... please help me avoid mistakes!

For filling the seats, a turbo is nice. But you will really like the 300 hp for performance. The Cessna 206 or Cherokee 6/300 are good for that price range.

    Dollars to doughnuts......Lance it is!

I like the turbo option. Last month, we took a 300 nm trip KODO - KSAF and the westerly headwinds were bad plus turbulence around KROW which my wife doesn't like. Took 3 hrs to get to KSAF and less than two on the return. Turbo got us higher out of the turb and was useful in fighting the wind.

    AvGas Sales in Steep Decline

Some factors seem to be affecting 100LL sales that have nothing to do with crude oil price. The only time this chart flattens out the least bit is around 1998, when we had $10 oil. During the time period of this chart, avgas sales looks to be on a constant decline. Crude oil prices, the raw...

    Icing accident 4 survive westTx

Reminds me of the crash late last December near Vaughn NM, but with more fortunate results. A word to the wise - we have these frontal systems that pass thru West Texas in the winter that just don't easily mesh with flying small planes. I'm too much of a low time pilot to understand decision...

What does aTC wants when asking "Squaring base"

I practice T&Gs at a quiet nearby class D airfield and get the "call 2 mile base" likely because the tower doesn't have radar. Helps him know where to spot me, I figure.

    Historic and Popular GA airports?

I had my initial flight training and got my ticket at Avenger Field, KSWW, Sweetwater TX about 40 yrs ago. This was where the WASPs were trained during WW2. I remember the runways being 200 ft wide when I was learning there. My next door neighbor, Ray served as an instructor pilot for the...

How far do you drive to fly?

It's 30 min from my house to hangar at KODO. Main airport, KMAF, a class C, is closer, but hangar space is 3x over Odessa's cost and Midland's has a long wait list. If history holds, the oil price crash (by far our major product) will knock out the wait list for hangar space closer to home...
