    I've got the flu

Be sure to get the quad or 4-way version of the flu shot. The ordinary flu shot has three varieties. The three way was 100% paid by my health insurance. Last year, the four way was a $5 upcharge. This year, there was no upcharge. I asked around & all the health care professionals get the four...

    ForeFlight Aero Charts

Sectionals for me. I’ve been using them for so long that I can handle the high level of information comfortably. Can’t see the value in streamlining the charts for everyday cross country travel.

G1000 Big Red X over Fuel Gauge

I consistently get the big red X over the same tank when operating the G1000 on battery backup or master bus only. Once I turn on the avionics bus, it goes away. If it persisted during flight, I’d have the problem sought out & fixed.

    Thoughts on landing C182 heavy

You have a high wing plane. Siphon out 33 lbs with a plastic tube. This won't take long.

    New cell phone, which one?

Get a late model iPhone. With iOS upgrades, it will last the longest. My iPhone 7 Plus has a Pelican cover and fits in any pocket I wear. I work in the oilfield; plenty tough enviroment.

    What are ForeFlight "aeronautical maps"

We don't use the new FF aeronautical charts. The sectional charts are what we prefer and satisfy our needs.

    KSAT vs KSKF

KSSF is way preferable to KSAT. Great food both on-field and nearby. And, timewise just as close to the Riverwalk.

    1-800-WxBrief Question

I rarely file VFR flight plans, but always call 1-800-WXBRIEF to get a weather briefing for my longer cross country flights. Doesn't take a lot of time to get as complete a picture as possible. The hot MOAs are good to know, too.

Do you listen to music while flying?

I've never listened to the XM music in my plane. That part is a waste for me. I just don't get to fly enough to create the desire for that kind of a diversion.

    iPad Foreflight Reboot Lockout

Critical iOS devices in the cockpit should be utilized in pairs. I use an iPad & iPhone combo with confidence. Also, latest version of many apps begin to out-class iOS devices greater than three years of age. This includes the iOS itself as well. My 2012 iPad quit being reliable last year...

    BSA Aviation Merit Badge Counseling

Any pilot who is similarly motivated to introduce Boy Scouts to aviation can contact their area Scout Service Center and register as a Merit Badge Counselor for this Aviation Merit Badge. Volunteering to introduce youth to aviation promotes it's value in a great way.

Question re sunglasses - custom tint?

I had a pair of gradient sunglasses before and they bugged me for flying use. Probably because I'd never used any with gradient before. My current sunglasses are completely neutral gray with distance Rx on top half and computer distance (fingertip distance to panel) Rx on bottom half.

    Prescription sunglasses

My last prescription sunglasses were gradient. I had no prior experience with gradient and found them annoying. Another vote for non-polarized because sometimes the first indication of traffic is when the brief glint of sunlight off their windscreen catches your eye.
