    Air-to-Air Cessna 337 Skymaster

I remember watching the USAF version around Bergstrom AFB in the late 70s. They all would fly single file in their traffic pattern in amongst the RF-4Cs.

    ADS-B traffic display

I have the same impressions. There is a lot going on out here between the MOAs. The other day while heading eastward thru SE New Mexico between KROW and KHOB, I watched some target intercept and follow me for about 40 nm staying 400 ft below & remaining directly behind me. It quit following in...

    TFR reason?

I have seen those pop up in the neighborhood; typically circular climb/descent corridors for the drones. A semi-permanent one exists beside KSJT for that purpose. Could be something else, though. Bezos and the rocket hobbyists close airspace in far W Texas, but they typically go unlimited.

How long before water settles to the bottom of the tanks?

I’m a sumping fool now with my (captioned) plane. Couple of yrs ago, I filled both tanks from the fairly new self serve facility at KODO, right tank first. Did three, one hour flights over the course of three weeks doing pattern work and short field work. No rain this month & plane is hangared...

    Trump screwing up the airspace

We had two TFRs today around Jal NM that went from surface to 35 ft AGL. These things could get out of hand.

Fatality Crash KHOU looks like a Cirrus

I’ve had many controllers give me wind-wise, the wrong runway for me. If I comply, my C-182 landings can take a lot of runway and just aren’t pretty. The heavier planes and air carriers aren’t that picky about the favored runway and just prioritize getting on the ground quickly. A 15 knot...

How many hours did it take for your high performance?

My HP transition was from a Cherokee 140 to a Skylane T182T. This was accomplished quickly since it seemed to me an actual relief having more horsepower with the Cessna.

Preliminary results of the ERAU PA-28 accident

The shuttle was very complex. Two complete losses out of 135 total flights made it pretty risky to fly, also.

    ADS-B for G1000

The avionics shop at KGKY recently gave me approximate quotes for my 2004 C-T182T Nav III: ADS B Out - $5500 (gets the FAA mandate satisfied) ADS B In & Out - $11000 ("In" part provides ATC traffic & weather; both free) These estimates depend on my plane's wiring and maybe some other things.

    TIO-540 T182T climb #’s

For takeoff, we use everything full forward and don’t touch anything until 1000’ AGL. Then, switch to a cruise climb: use 25”, 2400 rpm and top of the green (18 gph) to altitude. The POH says to use the MP at the marked white line, which is the 25” mark; and use 2400 rpm and 16 gph (also marked...

    Marvel Mystery Oil

The wiki article cites a cause of an aircraft crash to the use of this additive. I’m sure the Lycoming engineer has heard of it. Can’t find it’s use endorsed in my engine’s manual. Nope, seems illogical to use in my plane.

Do you have a TBO limit?

The Lycoming TIO-540-AK1A in my (captioned) plane has a TBO of 2000 hrs or suggested 12 yrs. I don’t believe the time deadline is that hard of a deadline for this year model, though. The rubber alternator belt is buried inside the engine, which seems to make a case for having a life limit on...
