    Bought a new gun

I love performance cars, but I do not have the patience or time to commit to such an endeavor. I think I'm going to add a bike to my stable this year to save on commuting costs; my Acura is getting old and I'd rather keep it + have a bike than replace the Acura. Guns... well, I have my eye...

An interesting way to look at electric vehicle efficiency

The problem with "business case" is the infrastructure costs. For many forms of transportation infrastructure, business has relied upon the government to undertake the "loss leading" part of the investment (roads, ports, airports, railway) with the private sector then using it (in exchange for...

    What counts as probable cause?

IIRC Philly is unique in that there is a law that puts simple possession of drug paraphernalia as PC. Rubber bands, lots of balloons, and mini ziploc bags are considered paraphernalia under their law. There was a nasty expose of the vice squad abusing this law to rip off (steal money and...

    Bought a new gun

I've talked with a few State Police officers from VA and MA. At the time (in MA), .40 S&W was the MSP standard issue caliber. The MASP trooper told me that .40 S&W had better impact energy when shot through a car door versus 9mm. VASP uses .357 SIG to my knowledge. The VASP trooper...

    Bought a new gun

Safety is an activity that starts with your intent and is best layered to prevent mistakes. I like the DA/SA of the SIG. I don't like the trigger safety on the Glock. The Springfield is a bit of a punt in my eyes. Maybe I just prefer the SIG because I have to make myself feel better...

    Bought a new gun

I actually do not like shooting Glocks. The web of my grip hand stings after sending just one magazine down range. My SIG is far more comfortable to shoot, IMO. Interestingly enough, the Springfield XD's do not bother me -- even though, IIRC, they weigh less than the Glock. I have never...

A new project from Grandgent Stanley Studios

First off, thanks everyone for the well-wishes. It has been breathtaking the past ~11 weeks (we found out at 3 weeks). Aww shucks, I doubt that Gary. There was one weekend, ONE WEEKEND, in all of May next year that I could make the Fly-B-Que. Now, we're due :dunno: Yeah. Not...

    Sgt. Sal Giunta: Interview

http://restrepothemovie.com/ I've read Junger's "War", which is an outstanding book in it's own right. But this video is simply amazing.

    Of Interest to Henning(and others)

That's what I was thinking; 3 month frozen sword isn't exactly a treat. IIRC they offload in Halifax, since they spend so much time out off of Sable. Cheers, -Andrew

    Tomato Smoothie

If we have time at the Fly-B-Que (we won't, who in the heck am I kidding) -- I'll do a side-by-side of three ketchup blends, one "standard", one "fermented", and one "faux-mented" Arguably, the latter (using a fermented adjunct versus fermenting the tomatoes directly) is more historically...

    Question for the frequent flyers

I have had similar short connections (30 minutes is my lowest, IIRC) intraline without issue. My concern with 1.5 hours is the interline component. Outbound, the bag is more likely to make it to Peru; on the return, less so. YMMV, FWIW, $0.02, etc. -Andrew
