    Talk Me Out of Speed

Hey @GaryP1007 I'm outside Boston myself, and do similar-length missions; mostly semi local ~1-2hr trips, couple of times a year to ARB. I analyzed a similar question recently, as my partnership is upgrading (I sold my Diamond share and joined up with two others in a Mooney; we're going to...

Animals on Airlines - About time!

I was going to say that you didn’t see the movie, but it looks like you didn’t even make it to the end of the video!

    A question for the engineers...

So, what kinds of companies are these retreating engineers running, or starting? Perhaps this is a starting point for another thread....

    A question for the engineers...

I don't know what's keeping this kid in Cleveland, but I've been getting a lot of inquiries from Pittsburgh lately; mostly medical, but some stuff that's a little more "modeling mechanical systems in code". I hear that it's a great city.

    A question for the engineers...

This guy right here. I’m 14 years in and maxing out. If I wanted to stay technical track in my industry (medical) I’d need a PhD. Working on an MBA instead. Being late 30’s, I think it’s a little late for me to go to finance, but I’m getting training in FP&A. Aside of “marry rich”, I’d give the...

    Co-ownership Scheduling

There are numerous variables at play in that equation (software not really being one of them), but generally we didn’t have issues. People tend to adapt. Try to find partners with other addictions (garage full of expensive bicycles, kids, businesses, grad school, etc...). Has worked for me so...

    Co-ownership Scheduling

We paid 100/year for 1 plane and 4 people. I suspect that it’s that amount per plane, though, knowing the software, it may not be the best solution for a group that large. I would spend the money for FlightschedulePro.

    Co-ownership Scheduling

Google Calendar works, but we ended up going to Sharezen in order to make billing for tach hours a little more straightforward. Will probably stick with that for the next partnership.

What feature do you like about your house, garage, hangar, etc???

I'd much rather put in a small sauna (one neighbor did).

What feature do you like about your house, garage, hangar, etc???

We have a jacuzzi tub. Useless. Perhaps it's unique to our model/installation, but: - too small. At 5'11", I simply don't fit. - doesn't actively heat the water Informal survey of several of our neighbors (wide variety of ages) says no one uses them, though they seem to be almost necessary for...

What feature do you like about your house, garage, hangar, etc???

Failure modes. For the most part, pex won’t freeze solid nor will it burst when frozen. Copper has the issues listed above and is a pain to fix. Not saying anything is perfect but the simplicity (once I bought the correct tools) sold me on it. That said, my place is pushing 10 years old and I’ve...

What feature do you like about your house, garage, hangar, etc???

One thing I didn't mention earlier - 100% get 240V in the garage. Cheap to do now, and it's almost guaranteed that there will be an electric car in there in the lifetime of the electrical system. We have a central vac system - never bothered with it once we got a decent-quality canister vac...

What feature do you like about your house, garage, hangar, etc???

    - fewer walls are better - I wouldn't bother with the central vac system. Vacuums are small and light, who wants to deal with a hose? - Insulation around the foundation and in the garage floor - radiant floor heating in garage, bathrooms, kitchen, and anywhere else you have hard flooring - 2*6...

How do you fill your lower wage jobs?

Moreso in more rural areas, but, yep. It’s an issue.

    Reduced Time ATP Worth It?

How quickly does the college program get you to CFI? Also, would you have the option of doing a non-aviation major? Perhaps at a better (or less-expensive) school? I helped a kid do the math on an aviation program recently. “Life-ruining debt” was the conclusion. Be careful.

How do you fill your lower wage jobs?

The economy is good.... I'm not at such a company currently, but I've worked in a couple of manufacturing environments that will hire machine operators off of the street; really, anyone that can pass a pee test and speaks "functional" English (literacy optional). Right now, those places are...

[rant]There is a place for a crock pot, love it[/rant]

Fantastic place. Minute pot blows away a crock pot (and I tossed my rice cooker too). Whatever OP did to that meat was sacrilege. Sous Vide burgers (finished with a torch) are my current strategy.

    Question for the Airline Pilots
