Re: quarantine/lockdown: Do you have a housekeeper?

Continuing to pay, but she’s staying home. We both have demanding jobs and long commutes, and side businesses (and we like our weekends). Essential employee! Unemployment has our backs and the SBA is (supposedly) going to help out with the business. We're glad to take care of someone we...

    [NA]Hangar lighting[NA]

The one behind the circular one in your photo is what I used - 18000lm and 100$

    [NA]Hangar lighting[NA]

Some good pricing and options here but no idea about quality and such. https://greenlightdepot.com/collections/led-high-bay Personally I wouldn’t do the 2-tube fixtures in a high bay. They just don’t have the power needed - you can put up a bunch but you’ll spend the same and end up doing more...

Can’t say how those will spread light but they’re probably easier to put up than the ones we go, and almost twice the lumens for the same price.

    [NA]Hangar lighting[NA]

We just added two of those over the centerline of the plane (there are marginally useful LED’s out above the wings). Monstrous improvement. Ran both through a switch on a cut up extension cord (plugged in). The inexpensive 4’ LED fixtures were useless at the ceiling height. I saw these at a...

    Best Aircraft for Commercial SEL

And you're used to it? Seems perfect. Personally, I'd place a high priority on the glass experience over swinging gear. I just did the CPL ride in a Cirrus. Honestly thinking it through, I don't really see it: - Eights on pylons, the point will be above the low wing or below the high wing...

    Our admin....

Tar and feather. My Fortune 500 day job can’t seem to keep an espresso machine running and the only alternative is Keurig. Funny, peel open those stupid cups and the grinds make a decent coffee when run through a French press.

Sticky Cirrus Panel / How to de-gunk?

You should check out COPA, but I've seen suggestions of oven cleaner and repaint (this is for the soft-touch plastic panels). For hazy screens, I forget what people have done (absolutely NOT oven cleaner), but removing the anti-glare coating can make a huge difference. Scott

    AME Recommendations in Eastern Massachusetts

I'm happy with Dr. Sperling. You're well-advised to heed the advice outlined above. Thanks for the reminder - I have to schedule an appointment with him...

B-17 Down at Bradley Int'l Airport

Yup. Would be interesting to see some of the more recent history, as they supposedly sold (leased?) some of the collection to build the tank museum. It's an amazing place, and I'm sure cost quite a bit.

    Cirrus killer?

I’m surprised no one has mentioned Glasair Sportsman yet.

    Cirrus killer?

Agreed on all points. I drive a 10 year old Mazda up to the hangar, and go home to a condo. My wife and I largely escaped the scourge of student debt (and are DINK's). We still couldn't (wouldn't?) own an airplane without partners.

    Cirrus killer?

We did take a solid look at a Trinidad, but they're thirsty, and we wanted something more "standard" for if we have to re-market a share, and felt that maintenance would be easier given the wider market. We're surrounded by Bonanzas + Cirri. Just for fun; I'm not yet 40, and one of our...

    Cirrus killer?

Fair enough! (Didn't get a pic of the ramp rat, though to be fair our prior DA-40 aged well outside, I thought). It's a 2003 Avidyne-equipped bird which came in considerably less than 250, though the engine is "later-life". P+I are showing some age, but I've seen chartered G5's that look worse...

    Cirrus killer?

Perhaps Tantalums measures are different than mine, but we managed to pick up a pretty clean G1 for much less than $250k (even if you include engine OH, WAAS upgrade, ADSB, and an interior refresh, which could be done but are in no way needed now). If you're looking for the features of the newer...

May as well use it. It’s a terrible laundry rack. Pool tables work a lot better. :)

    Commercial certificate help insurance

I think that depends on the airframe. We found a bit of a discount on our Diamond as partners got instrument ratings. Cirrus or Bo with any partner without IR was an increase of 50-100% (if we got a quote at all). Commercial likely won't affect it, though I've been told it can help with life...
