Where do you expect them to find the time for advocacy with all the time they have to spend fundraising? :D

DRONES UAV'S - Any chance they could spark more interest in general aviation?

I made exactly this comment in the last "is GA dying?" thread, and I was scorned for the suggestion. But yes, they could, if we were to take them seriously and treat them as pilots. If I were a 12 year old with a drone, I would think it really cool if I could get a real pilot's license to fly one.

The incentives young aviators need....or not?

Personally, I think the incredibly hostile reception of the pilot community (flying or renting aircraft valued at 5 and 6 figures) to drones (almost universally < $1000) while simultaneously complaining about the high cost of aviation as a barrier to entry is extremely hypocritical. Without...

    PA32 down near Bakersfield

Based on some of the pictures of the aircraft, it looks like it doesn't have any meaningful de-ice equipment. Accepting an IFR clearance into that weather sure doesn't seem like something that was going to make the situation better, sadly.

    PA32 down near Bakersfield

http://www.kathrynsreport.com/2015/12/piper-pa-32rt-300t-turbo-lance-ii.html Not much information yet, but FlightRadar24 paints a grim picture of the flight. It appears that a lot of effort went into circumnavigating the weather. Wreckage has been found near the area where the FR24 track...

    Upholstery recommendations near San Jose?

My 1979 T210 was done at Belardi Interiors (WVI) in 2010, and I think the work is outstanding. I can't speak to the interaction with the shop or the cost, because it was done by the prior owner, but I'd be happy to share more pictures privately or even show you in person if you'd like. I'm based...

1963 Cessna 210 any issues with this model?

My recommendation for the 210 is to acquire John Frank's Cessna 210 buyers' guide. It does an excellent job of calling out the key concerns and ADs. On a 210C, the gear saddles are probably the most expensive one. You should do that inspection as part of the pre-buy, as the parts cost $$$...

    Foreflight upped the price?

I can't speak for anyone else, but if Hilton wants me to buy WingX, they should spend some time giving it a user interface that doesn't look like they barfed it out all over the screen in five minutes. It hurts just looking at the web site.

    Student renters insurance

I had a non-owned Avemco policy for 3 or 4 years. When I bought an aircraft and was looking for an owner's policy, they were more than 2x the cost of the worst competing quote and were very unforthcoming as to the variables involved. As a result, I'm loathe to recommend Avemco, but would second...

    T210 310HP TSIO520

Yes, that's a good catch, and you're correct. Book is ~168-170 KTAS at those altitudes. I usually achieve around 160 KTAS, but I like to build a lot of margin into my flight planning. Some people choose to climb at a faster airspeed, but I plan slower because of instrument departure procedures...

    T210 310HP TSIO520

    I don't use fltplan.com, but in ForeFlight for my T210N which has the TSIO-520-R, I use this profile: climb - 110 KTAS, 24 GPH, 700 fpm cruise - 155 KTAS, 17 GPH ROP (usually 10,000 - 12,000) descent - 160 KTAS, 17 GPH, 500 fpm Those are pretty conservative... I haven't updated it since...

    Carbon monoxide

I kept it around for a while, but it was long past its best by date, so I tossed it before this happened. I do agree that the stickies are better than nothing, but I definitely place a value on the audible alerting.

    Carbon monoxide

It's my hope that I don't have anything to contribute to Lessons Learned very often, but today I had an experience that I hope can help some others. While on a relatively short flight back to home base with a couple of friends today, my carbon monoxide detector began alerting, and then...

    IAH pireps?

If you feel ready, go do it and have fun. Some operational tips based on the busier B/C fields I've been to most often (LAS, SAN, HNL, PDX, BUR, SJC, others): - Have the taxi diagram out and study it in advance. It looks like you could get some exciting instructions at IAH if you're not...

how do you remember cloud clearances for vfr

If you're asking for a checkride, I tried many of the methods above, but ultimately fell back on rote memorization. From a practical standpoint, one of my favorite pieces of kit is my Sporty's lapdesk. It happens to have an IFR and VFR placard attached to it which includes, among other...

Multi Academy Award winning composer James Horner dead in plane crash.

It is a huge shame to lose such an incredibly talented man with an outstanding repertoire. I was on with LA center in that area just after the accident while S&R was responding, and the controller mentioned to one of the responders that the accident was preceded by some "pretty radical climbs...

    Cessna T210N - 1979

Like I said, there is a service bulletin for pivot crack inspections on the later model year 210s along with the 172RG and 182RG. My A&P called it out during my pre-buy, but did not seem to be very concerned. When I researched it, I couldn't find an example of someone who had a crack found on a...

    Cessna T210N - 1979

Can't disagree with anything there, but personally I think I'll ride it out for now. :) If nothing else, I've learned a lot for next time that will be incredibly useful whether I go certified or experimental.

    Cessna T210N - 1979

My apologies, you are correct about that. It's not that AD but Cessna's SEL-57-01 that mentions the recurring inspection.

    Cessna T210N - 1979

I just purchased this very airplane (1979 T210N, non-FIKI w/ intercooler) about four months ago. I have a Sandel 3308 HSI, S-TEC 55, GNS 430W, MX-20, and GTX 330 in the panel. It's worth noting that this was my first owned airplane, so I learned a few things during the process that prior owners...
