    Lycoming IO-390 Question

Plus with no competition for cylinders 4K is a joke. North of 2k is a joke for the IO360 200hp cylinders. No competition, at least not on the certified market. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Lycoming IO-390 Question

That's a salesmans claim on smoothness. And I don't doubt it at high rpm but in the low 2000s or transitioning though the teens 4 cylinders vibrate. Or when at high MP in low 2000s. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Lycoming IO-390 Question

Ya, the coffee can cylinders don't work so hot in 4 cylinder configurations as the vibration is high. Hard on cowls and anything else that vibrates. There is a reason they historically go to 6 bangers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What is the flight from Florida to the Bahamas like in a single engine?

About the same as flying across the gulf in my mooney.....boring not much to see tell you get to land.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Daily Pic

About 145kts true up at FL200. 100kts indicated. At 8000 it will run 165kts and 11000 about 160kts, but the cool thing is even though the speed falls off pretty fast at FL200, it's doing 145kts true on 6.5gph up that high and that's almost 26 statute mpg! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Will General Aviation Survive

Trump doesn't like the FAA. Remember just a few months back when his registration expired and they were slow to respond so he had to sell the jet to another one of his companies to get a new registration certificate? He won't forget. He is going to slaughter the FAA, ram though the 3rd...

Constant speed prop - throttle first or prop first?

Keep the prop and power at cruise setting when making your decent. You getting your time back! Ya know the time you spent dragging it up to "xyz" altitude....just don't bust Vne speed on the way down. In the mooney, in smooth air I can leave the prop and throttle where they were as long as I...

    2003 Cirrus SR22 vs 2000 Mooney M20R Ovation 2 Honest Comparison

Yep....that's almost exactly what I though of the cirrus too. Over on. Mooney space a 777 pilot w/19,000 hours just bought a personal plane......guess what he bought? A brand new mooney twin turbo acclaim. Truly a pilots plane but if you need a minivan a cirrus is the next best thing...

    2003 Cirrus SR22 vs 2000 Mooney M20R Ovation 2 Honest Comparison

Fuel tank shouldn't need reseals until 25 years or so of age. Cirrus hasn't been around that long so not sure what suprises their might be. Our flying club in Rochester bought a 2006 cirrus mainly due to the chute. Some of us were pushing for a 2000 ovation. The cirrus hands down cost...

Any updates regarding the avgas replacement effort?

A 8.7 compression io 360 200hp with 25 (not 20) btdc will run at 65% power at any mixture setting on just straight 91- no ethanol fuel. It can run at max power in hot conditions at take off target egt is used (rich). It will run lean of peak well even at 65-75% power but needs to be run...

    Tiedown engine pre-heat

You need a apu with cell phone activated start. This would be the perfect application for Honda to make a Efi electric start Honda 1000, tied into the fuel system with one of those exhausts kits on eBay the routes the exhaust and cooling air out the back of the aircraft. It could purr away in...

A CAT IIIB Appriach in case you haven't seen one...

I still think about some of the air crash investigations and how when things went bad how some of the flights made it to the ground saving some or all aboard. Probably wouldn't turn out the same in near zero visibility. Everything has to work perfect. Pretty awesome though! Sent from my...

First time buy - Archer vs Arrow?

All the seats full and topped off tanks isn't much of a priority for most pilots as someone will have to use the potty before 4 hours. Seems like a 2-3 hour flight is more common. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    2003 Cirrus SR22 vs 2000 Mooney M20R Ovation 2 Honest Comparison

Cirrus for wife mooney for pilot.....quote of the year! It's true. Sure that larger cabin on the cirrus would be nice, the 2nd door, the chute etc, but there is nothing like getting in a plane that was designed to satisfy the pilot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    2003 Cirrus SR22 vs 2000 Mooney M20R Ovation 2 Honest Comparison

Ya but the mooney will do it on less fuel so the useful load is really more useful. Chute would be nice, but fly a mooney once it's like driving a vette vs a Malibu ---all push pull rod controls to flight surfaces no cables and pulleys. BUT if the wife says she wants a chute there is no...
