    Saving the LSA/SPL

Thanks guys for the help...think I will keep an eye on the place at $35/hr with the Jabiru as soon as they get the new CFI online...maybe the part-time CFI already there will have some free time also. In the meantime I will get the written test out of the way.

    Saving the LSA/SPL

Ugh...another hurdle...excellent discussion over there. Hopefully drseti can get going...be great for communal aviation in his area I would think. I will have to ask the flight school about their DPE before hand. My visit to the local airports involved my use of the acronym "SPL" with them...

    Saving the LSA/SPL

The problem appears two fold; limited number of planes and limited instructors for Sport Pilots. However, turn around and you will find an excellent Cessna for PPL that is perfect for new pilot training. Turn around again and you will find a qualified PPL CFI ready to train you. This abysmal...

I just found this: https://www.eaa.org/en/eaa/aviation-advocacy-and-safety/aviation_advocacy/top-aviation-issues/aeromedical-reform Nothing about LSA getting fatter to add the 150s...

    Ground School

Makes perfect sense. Something I had no idea to consider. Thank you! I did get some DVDs and will buy the materials used by the school I plan to attend in the very near future.

    Ground School

Thanks for the clarification...CFR did mention "ground school" although I was not clear if that meant self-study or online course as you mentioned Ralph

    Ground School

No, in step 2 I completed my check ride where I get the "ticket" to fly at a flight school? Wouldn't that ticket permit me to jump in any LSA and head for the stars (10k ft)? I was thinking that I would want someone (experienced pilot) with experience to come along with me while I adjust to my...

    Ground School

I was thinking of proceeding in the following manner: 1.* pass the FAA knowledge test locally (testing center is a 5 minute drive from me) using the manuals the flight school uses; 2. attend accelerated flight school over a 2-4 week period to complete the check ride with the J230 while staying...

    Saving the LSA/SPL

I agree that even if a proposal is sitting directly in front of them it will take forever for anything to happen. I will figure out a way to make this happen safely and affordable. Going to check back in with that school (J230) soon to see how things are going with their CFI.

    Saving the LSA/SPL

Thank you for your concerns Paul. Pretty sure I am good to go after discussing this with my PCP (Primary Care Provider) along with the guidance provided by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and an honest personal evaluation. I assure you my family means more to me than to you. Please, if...

    Saving the LSA/SPL

Agreed...and is why I would love to be in an old Cessna that I could afford and would know upon getting the ticket! I would suspect mechanics know these planes well by now. I have read a few posts where experienced pilots tell noobs to not buy a plane for training as maintenance fees can add...

    Saving the LSA/SPL

As a new pilot who intends to fly his wife and daughter around (separately of course), to me, it seems wise to not jump in any old plane jeopardizing their safety. It has to be a plane that I can trust their lives are safe in.

    Saving the LSA/SPL

Thanks for all the input everyone. Greatly appreciated! Unfortunately I did not leave the US Military unscathed, so I will not waste time fighting over a medical certificate leading to a PPL that will yield me $0. The SPL would satisfy my needs after having the flying discussion with my...

    Saving the LSA/SPL

<<<<<...updated location in profile. Found a 162 south of Nashville, but the rates are really high and the drive is quite awful at 2-3 days per week. Also, found a J230 very near family that I could stay with during training that has rates of $95 and $35 for the Instructor. However, this...
