    First Passengers!

Thanks everyone! Everything went smoothly today with my first passengers. The air was super smooth and we did a few laps around Stone Mountain and got to see the Atlanta skyline. Thanks for all the advice and input. It was definitely better that I took them today rather than yesterday.

Great day to go flying! The grandparents loved the smooth air. Here's a view of Stone Mountain that we had.

    First Passengers!

I passed! Ended up missing a few on the oral portion, but the DPE said I didn't miss anything on the flying portion. But I guess passing is passing.

Same here! I could see it when I was east of Athens--so probably 50 mm--and I thought "hmmm... There's an idea for tomorrow!"

Places to Eat in North Georgia Area

So I ended up deciding I'm going to do a few circles around Stone Mountain tomorrow. Not too difficult of a flight, but Stone Mountain and the Atlanta skyline will make it enjoyable for my grandparents! By the way, I PASSED my check ride today!

Yea, thats definitely an option, but I was hoping to take them somewhere to eat. Its kind of like your first solo--yea, you're flying, but it doesn't really mean much until you actually do your first solo cross country and end up somewhere you've never been before.

What time are y'all going to be out there? I have my check ride at 10:00 AM at KGRD so I'm trying not to fly anymore Saturday cause I'll probably be wiped out. Do you all meet out there monthly or something?

Yea, KJZP is looking like a winner right now. My family likes barbecue and there's a BBQ place not too far from the airport. Looking at the sectional, it doesn't look like the mountains will pose too much of a problem, but I'll still run over this with my CFI since it'll be my first time...

Places to Eat in North Georgia Area

No, it doesn't have to be in Georgia. Just within about 115 nm or so. I'll be in a 172.

Yea, my first thought was that the turf would be pretty soft. Is it a rental car or courtesy car at JZP? If its a courtesy car, do I just walk in and say "hey, I'd like to take the car?" Also, I don't really know anything about ramp fees. How do I go about determining if I have to pay them...

Places to Eat in North Georgia Area

Unfortunately, I've heard that the place at Winder closed down. Which would be the better place for a low time pilot? Flying out of Athens, I'm pretty comfortable talking to ATC, but I don't want to get in over my head on one of my first flights with family.

Places to Eat in North Georgia Area

I'm looking to take some family for some breakfast or lunch this Sunday. But the problem is that I don't know where I should go. I'll be departing from Athens, Georgia and I would prefer to fly no more than an hour one way. Any recommendations on places to go? Thanks guys!

Things not to say to the boss

My current boss recently told me, "You don't like me because you wanted my job but didn't get it." He didn't like it too much when I told him "First, I'm about to graduate with three degrees and your job is the last one on the list that I would want. Second, despite being less than half your...

    Christmas Lights

Alright, I know its not even Thanksgiving yet, but the fact that it is officially November and that I'm practically Clark Griswold has me gearing up for Christmas. How's flying at night during Christmas time? Can you see the extra lights at all? Does it make much of a difference at all? I...

    Savannah, GA

I'm from savannah but I've never dealt with the airport first hand so I can't offer advice there. As for food, my favorite combo is Corleone's on the corner of Broughton and MLK for dinner and then walking about 20 yards behind the restaurant to Lulu's chocolate bar for dessert. Corleone's in...

    First Passengers!

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. After hearing yall's input, I think I'm going to wait and take them up the next day. It seems like everyone was wiped out after their check ride, so I imagine my experience won't be much different. Maybe we'll get up early and go eat breakfast somewhere or...

    First Passengers!

You think I'll be too wiped out to go up for an hour flight or so afterward? I'm trying to avoid taking them up the next day because, being a young college kid, I would like to celebrate by going out the night I pass it with friends. And obviously, new pilot and going out the night before...

    First Passengers!

I have finally scheduled my PPL Check Ride for November 14! When I started, my grandfather was super excited so I promised him that he could be my first passenger! I'm not sure who's more excited about him being my first passenger out of the two of us. Anyways, he's driving up to Athens the...

I know the answer but will ask anyway...

After thinking about it, I think its pretty possible. I'm not familiar with New York airspace at all, but I would imagine it is somewhat similar to Atlanta's. I recently flew over the top of KATL on a Tuesday night around 9ish with absolutely no problem. They were super accommodating. I...
