Engine Failure! ...pick a landing spot

The airplane I train in (my poor baby) had a catastrophic engine failure and landed on a Long Island beach. I wasn't aboard, but it was a CFI I don't know who has some crazy amount of hours (10,000?), and a student pilot ON HIS FIRST TRAINING FLIGHT. Whoops. The CFI had time to fly a proper...

    Stalls - Nervousness

It's fine. It's scary but fine. is 100% right. The goals is to train your brain/muscles into the correct reaction, because the natural reaction (correcting bank with ailerons and maybe pulling back on elevator) is the WRONG one. So practice it. A lot...

One Zulu Delta: A Student Pilot Adventure

Nah. Some kind of major engine malfunction. CFI landed it. They take incredibly good care of their planes, and their CFIs are EXTREMELY conservative on the fuel, top it off constantly. It's a good outfit.

One Zulu Delta: A Student Pilot Adventure

ACK! The airplane I train in had to make an emergency landing on the beach! Everyone's OK and the airplane doesn't look too bent, from what I can see in the news photos. http://longisland.news12.com/news/small-plane-lands-at-sunken-meadow-state-park-1.11563065

One Zulu Delta: A Student Pilot Adventure

AND I made a Facebook page, because my FB friends were getting a little tired of me constantly posting aviation-related links. So I made a one-stop shop, and if they don't want to follow they don't have to. But I bet you all do! https://www.facebook.com/onezuludelta/

One Zulu Delta: A Student Pilot Adventure

P.S. I was digging through photos I have taken of my flight training, and figured I could use a dedicated place to share them. So, if any of you do Instagram, here you go: https://www.instagram.com/onezuludelta/

One Zulu Delta: A Student Pilot Adventure

Epic joke! We have the same sense of humor. My CFI suggested spin training afterward, but I don't know what airplane we would do it in, not sure if the 152 is certified. This was my mock checkride, so we were focused on that, and I'm not sure if we had sufficient altitude, and like you said, he...

One Zulu Delta: A Student Pilot Adventure

Oh WOW, what a video! That was super helpful in seeing what would have happened had we not recovered sooner! Thanks for the compliments!

    Class G and E airspace

I don't have trouble remembering it, I just thought it was interesting that they were disappearing. I think I would disagree though, anyway. Since 99% of the non-B/C/D/E-down-to-700 airspace is E-down-to-1,200, I would think of E-down-to-1,200 as the default. If I show a non-pilot a sectional...

    Class G and E airspace

Sorry to zombie-thread this, but I was just taking one of those AOPA ASF courses, this one about airspace (wild weekend for me, woooo!), and got to the part about the Class G up to 14,500 MSL. I looked up the airport in their figure - Class G is gone. Did some Googling to other articles about...

One Zulu Delta: A Student Pilot Adventure

Your wish is my command! I really, really, really did mess something up! It was basically a Perfect Storm of screwups. I detailed all the details (detailing detailed details) in Part TWO of Pride Comes Before A Spin, and it is now LIVE with VIDEO! http://onezuludelta.com/pride-comes-spin-part-2

    Anyone still use VORs?

Carmel VOR - most useless VOR ever?

    Talking to ATC

TONS of student pilots (including me) doing all kinds of ridiculous things, and I think she just has a stricter definition of how wide her final path is than other controllers, maybe?

    Talking to ATC

Hahaha, I never thought if her as sexy, but mostly because she is always yelling at someone on downwind that they are "too close to my final!". I also heard her tell a guy who was having a hard time comprehending her instructions that "It's not that complicated!".
  15. onezuludelta

    Well that was disapointing....

My private training has taken 3 times as long as I planned for, was more expensive than I budgeted, and then I blew the mock checkride and ran out of money, so I still haven't finished. I read all the horror stories about "life getting in the way" and thought "That'll never be me!", until...it...

My gyroscope says the world is Flat

The thing that upsets me most is that you actually have to spend time dealing with this, and looking for an explanation that your friend will accept. The thing that sucks more is that your friend won't accept it. They will always find some other scientifically dubious comeback.

    Flight to Natchitoches, LA

Re: Flight to Natchtoches, TX My assumption as someone who grew up 90 min away (and had a fishing camp on Toledo Bend Reservoir on the TX/LA border) was that, since the area was the border between French Louisiana and Spanish Mexico, the names probably mean the same thing, but one got the...
