New PPL - Flying For Fun and Sightseeing

Geography - I was more on the cultural/historical side, but I had friends that did physical geography (mostly coastal geomorph) and friends that did geology. So I love reading about physical geo stuff superficially, but I'm not going to delve into sediment transport formulas without my eyes...

Training in a Piper Archer Now. Got Any Tips/Tricks/Advice?

I've switched in my PPL training from a 152 to an Archer (PA-28-180 or 181, a 1975 with the Hershey bar wing), and I wanted to ask the hive mind: do you know of any good resources for Piper Archer specific info? I'm just trying to devour as much as I can between flights (because being on the...

One Zulu Delta: A Student Pilot Adventure

I built the website using this fancy thing that I didn't realize was more for building cool business webpages and less for a blog-style page, and then they ditched some features, so now it's a little clunky to mess with, but I'm not sure how (or if I should) reset/re-style it. In other news...

One Zulu Delta: A Student Pilot Adventure

Ugh, that sucks. I have that video part at the top and you have to scroll past it, but sometimes the scrolling is weird. I just should ditch the little video thing.

One Zulu Delta: A Student Pilot Adventure

That link doesn't work? Or you can't get to the other posts from the main page? Are you on mobile or desktop? I set this website up like 3 years ago, I hope there's nothing wrong with it because I sure don't remember what I did.

    May fortune favor the foolish...

For someone who is thinking (eventually, at some point in life) that they'd really enjoy CFI'ing, this thread is GOLD. You make it seem so attainable (with a good amount of elbow/brain grease). Good luck with all your training and with your new job. You have so many options now, options are...

One Zulu Delta: A Student Pilot Adventure

Wow, thanks for rubbing it in, POA website, with your "This thread is more than 1 year old" warning. YES. I AM AWARE. So, 16 months since my last flight, I AM FLYING AGAIN! I am GOING to finish my PPL this summer. Here's a quick, silly blog post about the first time back in the air...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

This, this, a thousand times this. I'm going to do a write-up of my flight soon but one of the biggest takeaways was I forgot just how GOOD CFIs are flying these damn planes. They make it seem so effortless, and know the limits and capabilities COLD.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Last flight: 1/15/16 Current Status: Sitting in car waiting for CFI to taxi in from previous flight. This. ****. Is. Happening.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Ugh. No. (Thanks for remembering, though.) My wife got tired of me complaining about it, and demanded that I put at least a tiny bit away from each paycheck so I can start again. Gonna see what this year's tax return is like, too, and balance it with all the bills and see what's possible. I...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Exact same thing happened to me on the day that was supposed to be my first lesson. He let me sit in the plane and familiarized me with some stuff, and the way it was rocking from the wind told me it was a good decision not to go up. I was still super disappointed, though.

ForeFlight version 8 has been released.

Has anyone else noticed there are WAY more NDBs than there are on the sectionals? There's 4 or 5 on Long Island, when the sectional only shows 2. Two of the "new" ones say LOM and an airport code, so is that an outer marker?

    CBP... No longer harassing pilots?

Speaking of, came across this today: http://blogs.mprnews.org/newscut/2016/08/in-minnesota-an-airport-runway-spans-two-countries/ "Along his journey, he encountered plenty of kindness, flying without any sort of plan of where he’d end up on any day. And then he made it to Minnesota." "I was...

    "Hall Monitor" CFI's

This is the second comment in here about the "younger generation" and participation awards. I used to get those (my soccer team was bad, REAL bad, like Bad News Bears BAD), and I HATED them. I didn't want them, I didn't want them displayed in my room. Nobody wanted them. And it sure didn't make...
