So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Well, my checkride WAS scheduled for tomorrow, but SOMEBODY who carries a massive TFR with him decided he would visit my airport and the surrounding area on the day of my checkride. What are the stinkin' odds? So, rescheduled for next Thursday, with a last flight with my CFI on Tuesday. I feel...

    Longer Term NYC Airport?

Yes to the first question, and I doubt he cares to the second.

    Longer Term NYC Airport?

And the cab companies at the FRG LIRR Station think they have some kind of legal monopoly (maybe a city ordinance?) for train station pick-ups, and will scream at any Uber driver that shows up. I've literally had to get in the front seat of an Uber instead of the back and say "just pretend...

One Zulu Delta: A Student Pilot Adventure

I'm going today at 4 PM so it should be better! I knew it would be bad this weekend but I just forgot HOW bad. I don't know why any of the Tower controllers would want to stay at a job there, they always sound SO frustrated and I don't blame them.

One Zulu Delta: A Student Pilot Adventure

I'm up to 7 hours since I restarted my flight training, and it has basically all been checkride prep. Flew Saturday and Sunday, and flying again today. If all goes well, I get the sign-off and we call the DPE to schedule. I can't believe I'm this close again. Saturday was atrocious because it...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

I spent 2 hours last night reviewing my video from the last flight and taking notes, seeing where I could improve and seeing what I did right (which is surprisingly hard to see at the time). It's incredibly valuable. Tell those people to fu.... uh, to mind their own business.

Training in a Piper Archer Now. Got Any Tips/Tricks/Advice?

I found this in Section 7-6 Operating Instructions of the POH: "Carburetor heat should not be applied unless there is an indication of carburetor icing, since the use of carburetor heat causes a reduction in power which may be critical in case of a go-around. Full throttle operation with...

Training in a Piper Archer Now. Got Any Tips/Tricks/Advice?

Hold on while I calculate my new W&B carrying a bowling ball, ping pong ball, and feather in the airplane.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Sounds like FRG every damn day. And then there's a bizjet inbound and everyone gets 10-mile extended downwinds. I followed a Grumman Widgeon onto base yesterday, though, so that was cool. Only other place I've seen one is Alaska. Went up for a full 2.0 yesterday. Did all the maneuvers and...

Training in a Piper Archer Now. Got Any Tips/Tricks/Advice?

Also, why are you so annoying Piper POH? Speeds in mph, and total fuel listed in gallons, but unusable fuel listed in pints... (eye roll)

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

AMEN. FINALLY going flying today. WTF happened to spring up here? So weird. Last flight was the same, crazy strong winds aloft, and my turns around a point were HILARIOUS. I kept getting blown directly over the point.

Training in a Piper Archer Now. Got Any Tips/Tricks/Advice?

OK so using this, I just found a spot on the chart where the lines coincided to eliminate the need for extrapolation/guesswork (15,000 ft/27.5 miles). So, 27.5 statute miles is 145,200 feet and 145,200/15,000 = 9.68, so that's a ~9.7:1 glide ratio? So I guess I'll pad it for safety and put 9:1...

Training in a Piper Archer Now. Got Any Tips/Tricks/Advice?

Does anyone know the glide ratio for an Archer? I can't fly this weekend so I'm stuck playing with Foreflight and dreaming and they have the new Glide Advisor feature.

I thought I read somewhere that was the reason for not using carb heat during taxi. Thanks for the links, I'll check those out!

New PPL - Flying For Fun and Sightseeing

I flew as a front-seat passenger in a really nice 206 with CAP for work a little while back, and it was my first G1000 flight and I just. could. not. stop. staring at the pretty screen. I kept catching myself, it's super addictive!
