Does anybody perform an inflight, high-power, lean-of-peak mag check

http://content.savvyanalysis.com/static/pdf/SavvyAnalysisFlightTestProfiles.pdf From the original article though: "The in-flight mag check is performed at normal cruise power and normal lean mixture (preferably LOP). Run the engine on each individual mag for at least 15 or 20 seconds. Ensure...

    Aspen E5

It's still clear as mud for me; however, based on their product comparison, it DOES look like the standard E5 (with ACU) will drive legacy autopilots now. They don't tell you what those autopilots are, but I would assume that it would be the same the Evo was driving before. I think it will...

Checked off a bucket list item.....Bahamas!

Looking at doing the same route, Ft. Pierce to Governor's Harbor, sometime this year. Got all my paperwork done (stickers & licenses), and only have our PFDs still to get. This will be our first trip as well, so look forward to any tips you have to give.

    Not getting my G500 TXI

This same thing happened with the GAD29B...they announced all this stuff would be ready, but took like an additional 6 months before deliveries were made. Business as usual.

    IO-540 Leaning...

I will echo what others have said above, but will take a tip from GB. I run 65% power pretty much all the time in cruise in the Lance, but have been leaning to 100° ROP on the CGR-30P. Always seems to pop me up about 1.5 GPH higher than what I expect. 50°-75°would put me right about 13.8 GPH...

    Aspen E5

The question I have now is whether or not this option will allow to be coupled to my Altimatic IIIc autopilot. With the VFR option from Aspen, they would not STC it with an autopilot with Altitude hold...or so I was told by them. Has this changed? The brochure says compatible with "most"...

help me understand the technology behind ALT Hold in older AP

Owned our Lance for nearly 4 years now and I've given the Altimatic IIIc attention here and there every one of those years. The autopilot has probably never been in as good of condition as it is right now. As I've never owned another aircraft with an autopilot, I don't have much basis for...

Estate Planning - What to do with the Airplane?

In the years I've been an airport manager, I've seen too many people not plan for this. Aircraft pass onto the estate and family members hang on to it, not wanting to sell it, thinking that it's worth a fortune because it's an airplane. Family members (more often than not) know squat about...

    RC model airplane at Airport

Which one? Closest I could come up with is 19 or 20. That being said, I don't allow RC on my airport. I've almost hit one at another airport.

    ADS-B Out and altitude reporting

I've been wondering this and whether or not I had an encoder problem as well. I'm almost always showing a 100 to 200 foot difference off of what I see on my altimeter cruising along at. I think once I saw 400-500. I guess I could always just ask ATC, but for whatever reason I never think...

    Flying a PA/32 on BasicMed

The same argument could be made for those who put three children in the back seats of Cessnas or Pipers. Still authorized to carry 4 (I believe, haven't looked at the type cert), but you can have 5 in there. Does the FAA differentiate between children and adults on the type cert? I still do a...

Chattanooga KCHA Last Week of May

Is the class reunion in Chattanooga or Sewanee? You can fly into here (KBGF) and pick up your rental vehicle if it's in Sewanee. We are about 15 minutes from the University. I'd say fly into Sewanee, but rental cars don't go up there.

Chattanooga KCHA Last Week of May

We are just west of Chattanooga. Normally I'd say May will be awesome in Tennessee, but the weather we've been having this winter has been very unpredictable. It's been over 80° a couple days this February. Don't get me wrong, I love it! Just never know when we're gonna get hammered with...

    Engine monitor upgrades?

Even though it is the same company and the same probes, you're gonna install whatever new probes come with the CGR as it IS a certified replacement unit. That being said, I installed the CGR-30P in my Lance and have been extremely happy with it. It's not going to fit that 2 inch hole as it is...

    Garmin 650 vs 750

What does your panel look like now? This is what mine looks like post upgrade, and I'm plenty happy with the 650. Rarely do I even touch it except to accept a flight plan from ForeFlight or Garmin Pilot via the FS510. The biggest difference from the 750 to the 650 (other than the sheer size)...

Man, if I thought that cowl cover would fit my PA32, I'd jump all over it. Shape is similar...how adjustable is it?

    Quirks

I see where you're addressing the problem already, but with relation to the GNS430 itself; If it's not WAAS already, it was my understanding that if it had to go back to Garmin that it would be required to be upgraded before they would work on the radio anyhow...did I misunderstand that?
