    Saratoga, A36, or....?

Thinking about the next plane... Our family will be growing probably in the next year or so.It'll be me, my wife and 3 small kids. The Mooney M20F is going to be too small at that point. Mission will be mainly 300-500nm trips besides just flying for enjoyment locally. Budget will be in the...

Has anyone insured a complex aircraft as a student pilot?

Bought a 1967 Mooney M20F, learning to train for PPL in it right now, added my flight instructor as well. I went with Halton Hall & Associates, Inc. Insured for $70k cost is right at $4,025 annually.

(UPDATE-BOUGHT A PLANE)Airplane NEWB - May need a plane for business, help me find the best option

Quick update: have not been able to train as fast as I’d like for various reasons but I do have around 9 hours flight time now and it’s going very well. My last lesson I landed the plane with little to no help from my instructor. We have been doing power off and power on stalls, ground reference...

(UPDATE-BOUGHT A PLANE)Airplane NEWB - May need a plane for business, help me find the best option

Thank you, thats some solid advice. My CPA really seems to know his stuff. Besides him I've talked to another CPA and also an aviation tax consultant who I believe is well known. We formed and bought it under an LLC like we were advised to do. It will be great to get started with the training...

(UPDATE-BOUGHT A PLANE)Airplane NEWB - May need a plane for business, help me find the best option

Well I've talked to insurance for awhile... Seems like I'm being guided by them as well as most of yall to a Cessna 172/182/206 variant. I'm very interested in a 2004 and newer 182 turbo but $300,000 or so is pretty steep... Is it worth it to get the updated exterior and interior along with the...

Oh, on the 182's the newer ones have an automatic wastegate now so you cant overboost them. Whats wrong with the seats in the DA40?

(UPDATE-BOUGHT A PLANE)Airplane NEWB - May need a plane for business, help me find the best option

Very informative reply flyingcheesehead, thank you for those examples and numbers and taking the time. If I'm going to be okay with the 145kts range then I'm really liking the DA40. If I wanted only 5-10kts more that would be one thing but I'm thinking more like 30-40 more. Most of my flying...

Yes you can deduct lessons if they are for business use is what I'm told. A 182 really sounds like a good option.. Just will want more speed soon I feel.

(UPDATE-BOUGHT A PLANE)Airplane NEWB - May need a plane for business, help me find the best option

Thank you for the insightful replies. The sr22 my boss bought was about $250,000, its not the turbo version. I've flown with in multiple older high wing cessna's so I'm already familiar with how the passenger pov is atleast. Yeah the first little while atleast will probably be almost purely...

(UPDATE-BOUGHT A PLANE)Airplane NEWB - May need a plane for business, help me find the best option

Talked to Van Bortel again, they have a newer 182 for 199,500 w/1800hrs. For 249,000 w/new engine including installation come in once it needs it and they'll install it. This seems like an attractive option if it was a plane I'd keep for a very long time. For them it would be 10-15%...
