    182 Panel Upgrade

I wouldn't discount the Aspen if the price comes down, I think their functionality is a little better than the Garmin. I'm especially curious that TruTrak and Trio are not mentioned as compatible autopilots in today's announcement about the G5. I balked at the cost of a 440 or a 650 and ended...

    Anyone Flying with New iPad?

Minimal disruption, i was surprised which is why I didn't put it there in the first place. I've placed it low down on the left side of the windshield, I'm in a Cardinal so it affects the small "v" corner to the left of the instrument panel. Not a massive vis area lost. It partially masks the...

    Foreflight documents to Kindle

Interesting, those come from the download functionality in Foreflight. You may just have to pick them up online and e-mail them over instead.

    Anyone Flying with New iPad?

I can't speak to the new ipad, but can to mounting. I had a yoke mount for my mini 2 for a few years, which was good, but moving to a window suction mount on the left window has dramatically improved both the usability of foreflight, and vis of other gauges.

    Foreflight documents to Kindle

Yes, your Kindle app should have a "Send-to-Kindle" e-mail address (check the settings in the App). You can send the document to mail when open in Foreflight.

Garmin GTX 345 - Backup AHRS question

I'm trying to decide between the Stratus ESG and GTX 345 ADS-B transponders. Does the GTX 345 have a backup battery internally that would run the AHRS in the event of an electrical failure, or do you lose AHRS functionality in that scenario? I found a couple of early articles that seemed made...

I've used smugmug.com for years, it is not free but reasonably low cost. Around $50/yr if I remember correctly.

    [NA] Bought an S4

My wife drove an A4 for many years. It was a nice driver when it worked, but when it had problems the parts were always unique, expensive and extraordinarily hard to reach. Look after the exhaust. When hers rusted through the only alternative was to replace the entire exhaust in one piece. I...

    GNS480/CNX80 Database Updates

A comment that @azure made last month made me think that others might be experiencing this too. For the past few months, every time I update my 480 database using JDM, the first "transfer to the card" fails. Press the button again and the second one works. Is anyone else experiencing something...

    New England Vacation Ideas

All the above so far are good. In addition. Sightseeing, places like Newport, RI. If you're up for some historic sites, 6B6 is close to Concord (so is KBED, but 6B6 is smaller, friendlier and cheaper), Plymouth too. All serve as a good base for Boston too, although KOWD would be my choice for...

IFR with short VFR over Niagara Falls

I'd imagine that is a complicated overflight is in Canadian airspace but with an agreement on use for overflight. It's been a while since I did it, but I recall coordinating with KIAG tower and then self announcing on the Unicom before returning. I wonder if you could file a flight to IAG and...

    AOPA Annual Report

I just took a look at the AOPA annual report interview. https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2017/june/pilot/aopa-annual-report Including the chart below. Their commentary says "Because of increasing investment in core member engagement areas, such as You Can Fly and the regional...

The perfect plane ever came on the market and my heart is racing.

Yes, you're thinking the right way. An annual determines current airworthy condition. A proper pre-buy inspection will help you understand the long term implications of owning the airplane. Similarly, if the mechanic on the field has been maintaining the plane, I'd look for someone else to...
