    KX-175B audio distortion

Are you using a lighter socket USB charger in the plane? I have a K175B and found it susceptible to noise from the charger when it was in use (I assume actively charging). I've now had a panel USB installed and no issue since.

    Aspen or G5

I have an Aspen Pro, and love it. I've looked at the dual G5 set up in other planes, they look great too. Personally I'd go with the Aspen again, although i'm not totally sure that the extra functionality justifies the difference in cost. Might be worth talking to both to see what you can get...

ADS-B Out: Would you pay $700 more for 1090 ES over 978 UAT

I thought that was by design? I don't think Anon is permitted on 1090.

Help Diagnose Engine Issue - Mag Drop

I had a similar issue recently, if you can get hold of the service manual run through the shutdown procedure to test the mixture setting. On my IO-360 it says to allow for +25 rpm at min throttle as you close the mixture to ICO, more than that and you're running too rich.

    Oxymiser Cannulas

That's probably the mistake, trying to don over the headset instead :). I was worried that the ear seals wouldn't work

    Oxymiser Cannulas

I have an oxygen system with the Skyox Oxymiser Cannula. I've tested it out on the ground, seems a simple enough arrangement. The tube is supposed to go over your ears and then loop back onto your chest where the pendant sits (see below). It works well in the comfort of home, but trying it...

    What a stupid design.

I had a similar issue. Ended up buying the split arm that twists in the middle so that I could get a better range of motion out of one end while addressing the constraints on the other end. Seemed a clunky solution, but it was the only one I could find.

    Oil Analysis Question

I've also been using Blackstone for a number of years. Most of the results have been perfectly normal, this year they noticed an anomaly which turned out to be dirt introduced through a number of small induction leaks. I was impressed with the way they answered follow-up questions. It's a pretty...

    NY TFRs on next week

Reading the text description of this TFR made my head hurt. Note the new area in yellow in addition to the existing TFR in red. Why use just one New York area airport, when you can sample a few? If you're planning to be around the area, make sure you read all the NOTAMs, looks like there are...

A "flat lander" would like to fly from Florida to California.

I'm also a flatlander from the Northeast, and did a slightly more northerly route than that in the other direction a few years ago (at least through the rockies). The route I took was a line between Bakersfield, Flagstaff, and Albuquerque stopping in Las Vegas (a slight detour) and Albuquerque...

Bryan, a wonderful write up and tribute, thank you for sharing it here. I'm sorry for your loss.

    Retractable gear questions

I have the 76, same as you, and you're right it looks like 12. Oops!

    Retractable gear questions

I tap the brakes on takeoff before retracting but I don't think it really makes a difference. a) I leave the gear down longer than most just in case of a low level engine failure and b) the gear transit time for a Cardinal is over 20 seconds. By the time they are in the wells, they wouldn't be...

Today was my second time in the left seat

It is overwhelming and totally foreign at first, we've all felt that. Different from first learning to drive because, while you're learning a new skill there, you're at least familiar with riding in a car regularly. It's not a totally new environment. It won't take long for that overwhelming...

    Who is this guy...?

Perhaps someone can confirm, I thought ATC already had the capability to tag and follow a radar target to destination, even without Mode C or ADS-B. For public data there's an anonymous option if UAT only.

    Who is this guy...?

His numbers are off. This time last year the FAA and the avionics industry were saying 100,000 still to go. There are 340 shops in the US. Let alone the five days per install stat.

    LightSpeed Zulu 3 vs PFX

I wanted to buy the PFX originally, but the size of the control box put me off, I didn't have anywhere convenient to put it. I used the Z2 and rest the box in the door handle on the Cardinal.

    Flying without a kneeboard?

We haven't even got to the Walmart vs. Staples debate yet. Having said that, it's been useful to see how many others (like me) have ditched the knee board in favor of a perfectly functional, non-pilot solution.

Help Save Light GA at KHPN (Westchester, NY)

I flew in this morning. My favorite way to get into the city (easy transfer to the Metro North to Grand Central). @JOhnH Ross West has lower parking fees. I think the fuel is about the same though. Aside from the cost I've found everyone there super accommodating, but cost is what will kill it...

Hey Maint - Wheels chocked and brake set?

Do the planes actually "belong" to NetJets? I thought they were all fractional ownership?
