An update. After my bad cylinder was pulled, a bad cam lobe and damaged lifter were found. I have decided to get a new engine.

This is a great reply. I knew 2 Pan Am pilots, NYC based. Sadly both have flown west several years ago. They always spoke fondly of the airline.

I bought a foot of clear vinyl tubing at the hardware store for about a buck. I slice off a piece the size of the grommet and warm it then stretch it on. This secures the belt easily and they last a long time. Rubber bands also work, but they fail quickly. I don't remember what diameter I used...

I have 6 logbooks spanning over 45 years. I'd like to switch, but converting to digital seems too daunting and time consuming to attempt. I'm too compulsive to just put the current times and start now, so I guess I'll just stick with paper.

I trained with the Francis hood which is very view limiting, uncomfortable and requires a lot go head movement. I now use the Jepp Shades. Comfortable and good under a headset. The flip up feature is good too.
