    Adios AOPA...

Everyones comments have given more thought to the real essence of what we get out of the association for what we 'put in'. Frankly I agree with all points, good and not so - haven't seen anything ugly being tossed around. But the design of not including paying members does bring it in focus for...

    Adios AOPA...

Would welcome that, in the right forum. Seems AOPA's regional meetings are more 'one way' speak rather than hearing hard feedback like what has been aired on this thread. It should be two way, without malice, and not getting defensive - read: no sour grapes. Most Nonprofits tend to shut the...

    Adios AOPA...

Thanks to all for throwing opinions out there and surprised at the amount of support. Membership is up at the end of July... so I'll be sitting on the fence til then.

    Adios AOPA...

Everyone's points well taken, and really appreciate everyone's opinion... so next question: if you had to choose between AOPA or EAA (it's been years since I was a member and not planning to build a kit anytime soon), which gives the most bang for the buck for pilot and GA? (realizing everyone...

    Adios AOPA...

After being a paying member for over 20 years, haven't really been too impressed with the 'club' in the past few. Rising costs, everything digital but if you want print - pay more, nothing really stands out that serves 'me' at my age/stage of flying... seems the leadership is trying to right the...

    YGBFSM

... the very reason I sunk $1,500 in my KLN89B display this Spring. It's IFR certified, old and no way user friendly (unless you've flown behind it for 20 years), but its still waaay cheaper to repair than replace with a yellow tagged WAAS Garmin. Ok, I'm cheap, but it's more dollars for avgas...

    Heading to Chicago

There's a train from MDW to downtown: http://www.transitchicago.com/orangeline/ I've done MDW and PWK, with the latter kinda out of the way. I second the 'wow' factor. You can think about stopping south of Chicago for cheaper fuel, and go into MDW. Controllers are very easy to work with.

    Would you have declared?

Flying a 210 years ago, had the starter SOL engage inflight, just after take off and cleaning the A/C for cruise clime. Didn't know what it was at the time, but heard this horrible intermittent distortion over the radio, couldn't figure it out. Voltage meter started doing a dance, then smelled...

    Alternate apps for Stratus?

Dat's what I was looking for. Figured Appareo had a lock on things. So roll over to another year, but I've been totally satisfied with FF basic. Thanks for all the input!

    Alternate apps for Stratus?

Think this has been posted before, but as my ForeFlight subscription nears renewal at the end of the month, thought I'd ask if there's been anything that comes close to FF, more affordably, as functionally --- trade offs, or keep going with the same basic subscription for the past year, opting...

Why are people afraid of Class B?

Very few Delta airspace towers have radar service. No more 'safer' than uncontrolled airspace in certain VFR approach situations, false sense of security IMHO. There are advantages in Delta airspace on IFR flight plans. Does Bravo airspace allow VFR flights in these days...?:D

low compression in a TCM cylinder

If borescope looks good, and if you're running good CHTs on same, normal oil consumption- fly the heck out of it for 20 hours and recheck compression. Using Phillips multi? You could try the rope trick lapping the valve seat with it in place, if there's any truth to that technique.

Trump to headline privatized ATC next week

What portion of Avgas tax exclusively goes towards ATC? and the balance towards aviation infrastructure, ie: physical maintenance of airports, landing systems, GPS, VOR, ADS-B ground base and GPS interface broadcast services, etc. Is he talking just ATC? If that's it, then what about the...

VPOTUS Sighting at the home drome

Looking at the color and marking from the ground I thought the same. VPOTUS' twitter called it Marine 2. Watching live is just amazing. Just can't get that from a flat screen.

VPOTUS Sighting at the home drome

Yep, 757. Three C-17's came in yesterday afternoon, one left out before dark. Guessing it went up to Indy to drop off the 'Beast' for the VP to do a lap around the track this morning.

VPOTUS Sighting at the home drome

Very impressive coordination between Military, Secret Service, and Local/State Law Enforcement. TFR window from AirForce 2's touchdown, to Marine 2 (and 5 in trail) departure, was like clockwork. Just to confirm, 'they don't play'. Was awesome to see the system in action.

    young eagle flight incident

So, the stabilized approach concept is a great technique and has its place in some areas of aviation (especially with bigger/heavier aircraft), but it isn't a universally-applicable best practice, IMHO. Just like an overhead pattern is appropriate and useful for a lot of high-performance...

    young eagle flight incident

Bingo. I remember my instructor always harping, but it really wasn't until IR training, that I got a real sense of what that 'feel's like.
