    Money Managers, useless criters.

Useless critters? Hardly. Leeches, more like. If your account rules say you can run the money yourself do it. Listen to @geezer. Read: "If You Can" by William Bernstein https://www.etf.com/docs/IfYouCan.pdf (free 16 page download) "The Coffee House Investor" by Bill Schultheis...

Why is the CAP so understaffed?

National drove me out of CAP a few years ago with a ridiculous airplane launch checklist. I had been working mostly as Air Ops Branch Director and pretty good at it. Several positive ratings from AF evals. The panjandrums at National, covering their A$$es came up with this incredible list of...

Does Airport Manager get involved with incident?

I would guess that his insurance requires him report any incidents beyond a certain severity level because they might result in the airport and the insurance company being drawn into a dispute.

Talk me out of renewing my AOPA membership

Well, $110M would train 11,000 new pilots at $10,000 each. AOPA could train a few hundred congresscritters and big chunk of FAA's 48,000 employees as well.

Talk me out of renewing my AOPA membership

He should get a market rate appropriate to running a second- or third tier nonprofit association. $1.5M looks quite high, especially in comparison to other AOPA salaries that are reported. Actually that's a fraught question. Generally a large amount of cash attracts malfeasance of one sort or...

Talk me out of renewing my AOPA membership

Con? Well, they don't need your money. Baker pays himself $1.5M/year. The investment cash hoard, built from unnecessarily high member dues, is now over $100M. They could shut the place down and live off the hoard for the rest of their lives. Said another way, they could make a cash payment...

Help on GPS - Latitude and Longitude

WADR, as a budding pilot you should be learning navigational skills, not how to follow magenta lines. Turn off that GPS and try some dead reckoning and some pilotage. The windows are not just to let light into the airplane.

I am looking for someone to call the bottom of the market.

... and if the stock goes down, you lose money. Both of these things are true regardless of whether a split is involved or not. Seriously, splits are an anachronism from the days of "round lot" (100 shares) trading. When a stock price was high, round lots became expensive and market demand...

    Website to buy Used/Refurbished Phones

I just bought a refurb Pixel 4xl on Amazon for $220. It was like new except aftermarket charger. If I paid a tad extra I'm OK with that because I expect that they will stand behind the product. So far no need to test that.

    Really small cruise ship?

A couple more thoughts but outside Europe: First, we went on a river cruise in Vietnam (https://www.pandaw.com/halong-bay-cruises). IIRC there were less than 20 people total on the boat, so we got to know each other fairly quickly and it was like traveling with friends. Pandaw offers a wide...

Does the military spoof ADS-B info?

I have flown those CAP missions and even when you know what's coming, it's pretty exciting. Almost certainly the F-16 driver had information from a radar track but no physical description of the target. Possibly you were close enough to the target information that you were mistaken for the CAP...

Does the military spoof ADS-B info?

Seems unlikely in that context, but they certainly can and will never tell you if they do.

Relation between RPM, EGT and Mixture

Fascinating. Have you discussed this with the Lycoming engineers? And, what is your technical background compared to the background of the Lycoming engineers?

Ever seen a fuel pump that doesn’t accept Amex?

Thanks for the explanation. Buried in there was the comment that Amex is pricier than consumer Visa/MC, though, but that is not the point. The real point here is that many merchants, especially overseas, won't take the card. Maybe they are acting on old information or old experience, but it...

Ever seen a fuel pump that doesn’t accept Amex?

We have found that carrying a couple of debit cards (different banks) is adequate. In the last 10 years or so, cash machines have become very common and reliable even in 3rd world countries like Ethiopia and Myanmar. We do carry a handful of small bills to use for baggage handling tips, etc...

Vinyl wrapping for airplanes vs painting

Vinyl burns pretty well. I'd ask at your local FSDO.
