Getting Checked Out in the DA42

"I resemble that remark!" I actually think the 42/62 are amazing looking planes, like an actual bird. No accounting for taste I suppose. Anyway I know which twin I'd rather go "off-roading" in should it come to that, and it ain't any of the legacy competition :P

Getting Checked Out in the DA42

I'm not sure why you would think the NTSB database is all-inclusive for an Austrian-built plane that is owned/flown all over the world (especially by foreign flight schools) given it runs on Jet-A (with worldwide availbility issues of 100LL), has FADEC and a modern cockpit. and lends itself to...

An Honest comparison of a Mooney vs Cirrus

You gotta fill us in for those of us who don't get our weather briefings from the weather channel :p As far as integrity in terms of "Aviation Journalism" I'd say it is probably on par or worse than the likes of Motor Trend or somesuch back in the day when Detroit was the only one paying your...

An Honest comparison of a Mooney vs Cirrus

Someone get some drink in Ken so we can get the dirty laundry aired. I have heard from someone else that they are not a fan of PB either (based on personally knowing him), I don't know him but I must admit I am quite entertained by some of his work, my sense of humor is quite aligned with his...

Getting Checked Out in the DA42

I've been flying an NG almost exclusively for the last 1.5 years or so. I really like the plane (except I wish I was flying a -VI with air conditioning). It is much simpler to deal with vs. a 6 handle twin in a lot of ways, also being turbocharged gives one more room to work regard OEI altitudes...

    DA-42

I should have clarified the front hinging canopy is a problem when getting in/out of the plane on the ground during a downpour, not when actually in flight. I did have a somewhat comical situation when departing from a Midwestern airport (KMGY) after a previous night of heavy rain, where when...

    DA-42

It's small, seats are fixed forward/back which enhances this smallness for back seat people, back seat legroom is tight. My benchmark for 4 seater interior size is the SR22, and the Cirrus is definitely more friendly in this regard for your rear passengers. I also wish the 62 had a club...

    DA-42

Yes I think he hasn't seen where the AE300 has a TBO... not a TBR like the continentals and old thielerts. The 42 has gone through a lot of change and a modern VI with Austros,gfc700, useful load increase, radar, interior improvements, and build and paint quality improvement is almost like a...

    DA-42

They are selling a lot more 62s right now, and that is a great plane as well. I want to say -VI sales were in the 12 or so range for North America last year but I could be wrong. I fly a 42 NG pretty much exclusively now, and I dream of getting a used -VI. The cruise performance difference is...

Another crash in San Diego, ugh. SR22T this time

Some of the higher altitudes (such as 1,400 feet) being mentioned RE: CAPS deployment may actually relate to incipient spin or loss of control minimum altitudes (if my Cirrus transition training memory is fairly accurate). There are straight and level recommended altitudes, "hard"straight and...

Another crash in San Diego, ugh. SR22T this time

Just a bad deal all around and not the first fatal EFATO in a Cirrus in recent history, RIP/Condolences. I think these are an opportunity/reminder for us to really refocus the mindset on that takeoff / low / slow sequence, set the mental spring and assume this is the one where your number is...

It's Final...We're Moving from CA to TX!

Just to enhance the thread-creep, I would suggest that the true test of desirability lies in what state would you live in if your state of origin or the one in which you essentially grew up in / identified with in your formative years was "off the menu" and you had the means/opportunity to...

    Oxygen Masks for Dogs

If only ours would do this, he is a rescue and while he loves humans, he hates other dogs, to the point he (really) physically attacks preemptively. We've tried to socialize him via a professional with a pack, etc, and it just doesn't seem to be in the cards, something happened in his past that...

    Oxygen Masks for Dogs

We fly all over with our dog, I've investigated this thoroughly and spoken with the vet. I've come to the conclusion that: At what altitude would you fly with a kid who can't communicate to you about how they are feeling? For us that is 10-11K feet for any extended period of time. Since we fly...

    Airspace question

Thanks everyone, I flew in today for lunch and it was a great little airport. Got to see a Piaggio II takeoff and a G2 owned by Macy's land, and a nice lot of GA planes on the ramp. Highly recommended for the lunch run, and coming in from the north east VFR was an easy shot to 21L.

    Airspace question

Yes that is my assumption thus far as well, that it is surface to 2100 there, but I bet that is a source of confusion (pilot deviation?). In used to the LA bravo where they just cut off the deltas in that scenario.

    Airspace question

Hi all, So I flew in to Ohio from California yesterday (approx 10 hrs and 2 stops in a DA42 NG) for a week long stay with the family. I'm thinking of flying VFR down to KLUK for a very expensive lunch. Looking at the chart, I see something odd looking. It looks like the class delta (sfc-3000)...
