    KMYF meetup at Casa Machado

Missed it. Would be great to know about next meetup as I am also in San Diego. As long as it is not M-Th when I have my A&P classes then I can weekends or evenings after work. Have to finish my A&P courses over next 2-3 years to be able to work on my own planes without getting ripped off.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

I am going through the Miramar College Part 147 A&P program in San Diego. It is less expensive than a trade school and allows me to work at my main day job and take classes in evenings. That still gives me time for study and to fly on weekends. Plus I can get a nice discount on a decent set of...

    AOPA Dues going up again

Yeah well at least the AOPA Pilot magazine is pretty good. Some benefits like discounts on FAA exams help as well but with higher costs and diminish returns will see how long I keep mine.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Congrats Brian. Well, I am a student again only this time for my A&P rating so that I can work on my own planes in the future.

First gotcha in annual- Piper experts come here

Older Bonanzas get corrosion issues as well. The process to fix is painful and requires a lot stripping and corrosion proofing then repainting and checking W&B as part of the process. Beechcraft in their infinite lack of wisdom back in the old times used magnesium in ruddervators to save on...

First gotcha in annual- Piper experts come here

Yeah if we are comparing similar year and performance Comanche to Bonanza both are solid fast planes. Later model planes are outside my budget.

First gotcha in annual- Piper experts come here

Don't get me wrong I love Pipers and finished my PPL in an Archer. But for same cost, between a Piper Arrow and sexy Vtail Bonanza that is harder call to make.

Why? Bonanzas are sweet birds :-)

First gotcha in annual- Piper experts come here

Well my preference in single pistons lead more toward Bonanzas which have their own set of expensive MX issues.

Wow that is turning me off from ever considering a Piper!

She's been a sitter, probably needs a Top Overhaul??

I went through this exercise and came to the realization that with my super busy schedule at work and school coming up soon that I'd be better offer buying a nicer more expensive plane that already has what I need without spending time and money in a shop.

    Working on avionics as A&P

Well as a noob, I don't plan to install anything right away. I will get some experience in an avionics shop part time after my A&P to learn the ropes. Like when I became a computer engineer, I had several internships that taught more than what I learned in school. End goal is to have the skills...

    Working on avionics as A&P

No for A&P classes, I use less expensive tools like Craftsman. Snapon can be useful later on for avionics work but super $$$$ I doubt that I will be doing anything avionics in first few A&P classes. There are 4 courses at Miramar that I have to take on electronics and electrical systems for...

    Working on avionics as A&P

Thanks Jim, I believe that there are a few core electronics courses required as part of the Miramar A&P program that I have to take so that will help as well. Now just need to get basic tools! Fortunately Harbor Freight has some good holiday sales right now.

She's been a sitter, probably needs a Top Overhaul??

now that was some poetic justice! I think that I will find a sitter queen as a project plane at a major discount to fix up once I have my A&P.

    Working on avionics as A&P

Great I look forward to learning avionics as part of my A&P training. I can save $$$$$ doing it myself once I have completed the training and rating. Will probably sub part time to gain real world experience in an avionics shop once I am done so that I can learn how to do things right. Figure if...

Well Miramar college is the only college in San Diego that offers a legit program so I have confidence in learning.

How much to deduct from offer for past damage history?

So why is it ok for blacks to call each other the N word? I for one could never understand that and even after asking my black friends they are puzzled as well!

How much to deduct from offer for past damage history?

Heck I get Polish jokes all the time and as a Polish guy do not get offended at all in fact I laugh at them. Same with Jewish jokes.
