I do wish FAA would get rid of the ridiculous red tape for aircraft avionics and a better manufacturing system for engines. No reason why a $100 computer should cost 20k in a plane and no reason why a 50 year old engine technology should cost 50k when CNC and fast computers can generate engines...

If the DME is working then I would keep it. It is useful and still in some places a DME is required for certain approaches.

This is why I am leaning toward buying an experimental aircraft like a Vans RV since I can build a low cost AI, DG or avionics suite for $100 with off the shelf electronics and technology.

Once I am back working think I want an experimental that will be affordable to own and upgrade like a newer Vans RV 7a. I can build a backup avionics EFD for $100 with my 3D printer and electronics.

Speed control is key for landings. Learn to manage the key of power and pitch control. Also the site picture is helpful whether you are low or high wing. Another thing that helped me was to actually try not to land. Keep holding off until you are hearing stall horn before set it down.
