Good, not-too-expensive ANR headset for passenger use?

Good, not-too-expensive ANR headset for passenger use?

I now own you. My thinking is....if my wife enjoys aviation theres no ball busting what I'm spending on flying. Theres less push back when talking about buying a plane. Opposed to if she hates it, now it's just me "spending money on myself," at least that's how she spins it. She's probably...

Brand New PPL. How to challenge myself but stay safe.

As a new ppl myself, I'll echo the xc. My first certificated flight was solo xc to an airport I had been to many times. I came back to a micro burst over the field, ll wind shear advisory, winds 18g26. In hindsight, it's something I wouldn't search out today, but I wouldn't shy away from...

    Negotiating Price of fractional ownership

I'm with you on this one. Especially a non-"trainer." Now I'm looking for a single person, willing to share, who is interested in the same make and model, gets a long with the "others" AND is happy with the location. Is that a rarer bird than someone with the money to buy the plane outright...

    Negotiating Price of fractional ownership

Thanks for this. The big dilemma is when the price of the plane drifts into six figure territory and then you're multiplying the "buy-in" by 3-5, differences in prices really get magnified. I'm going into it open minded and (I hope) not overly emotional. If the "partners" are cool, the flying...

Engine reserve estimate: IO-470 in 182

Prices not on the website are as follow (I'm doing from memory, so they might be off a couple bucks here or there). $30 or $35/month (w/ or w/o insurance) unlimited. or $12 or $15 per rental (w/ or w/o insurance). I think Mt instruction is like $50/hr. Primary is $42 and I think I pay $44...

Engine reserve estimate: IO-470 in 182

Denver. The reason you don't learn in them is you need 100 hours to take them out solo (insurance). And prices for other aircraft are really attractive as well (e.g. $75/hr for a 152).

Engine reserve estimate: IO-470 in 182

My school rents a 182 without fancy GPS for 118/hr wet, with 430w 128/hr and rg w/ 430w for 145/hr.

    Starting on my PPL

Colorado has over 300 sunny days a year. Winds do pick up, but I have put down about 40 hours the last 30 days, and that is flying around a 9-5, about half with an instructor (one more schedule to juggle) and a family. The main concern would be the instructor. I would contact them and get on...

    Negotiating Price of fractional ownership

Yeah, the cash part is easy to value. I wasn't expecting an appraisal, and even then I'm not interested in an appraisal for insurance purposes. The rub seems to be in determining the value of the plane itself. But to your point, the price could seem high if they have a ton of cash. I don't...

    Negotiating Price of fractional ownership

I'm looking at getting into a more serious plane. Something I swore I would never do, but the Cherokee 6 my school rents won't get me over the mountains very often or the 182's don't have the kiddie seats or I need 750 hours (and like 200 hours multi) to take the 310 out on my own. All...

    Piper arrow gear system

Yes, there is a delta P across the valves, and it may seem high, but it is relatively low volume being relieved. Kinds of like "big" farts. The lower delta P farts that sound "long" (high volume) may provide as much "relief" to you as the higher delta P farts that are shorter and silent, but...

Going for IFR, ground school - Sporty's or King?

Sheppard. They'll write your endorsement. I used sportys and Sheppard. Check out nafi, 33% off foreflight, 20% off sportys and kings.

    Training in advance?

Sportys is another excellent option. Many say it is dry, but the information is there and the graphics are better than the kings. It is also cheaper and they have the interactive ACS that I appreciated during checkride prep.

    Colorado Plane crash

I thought it was se of of rw 33? And rw 15 uses a rp. I was told about this as we were bumping along this afternoon. I know metro hit 40 kt gusts this afternoon. Sad to hear about this and my thoughts are with the familes of the airmen.

Pilot in training update. 3.2 hours so far!

Sorry, you seem to have misinterpreted the intent of my question. More than likely, I poorly communicated it. I'm a "young" person, I like conveniences. But what I'm really asking is, can't one know the underlying "old school magic" AND learn using an EFB? Can someone only learn calculations...

Pilot in training update. 3.2 hours so far!

Serious question - do people really have a hard time with "old school magic?" It all seemed really simple to me - Distance = rate x time. Maybe some simple trig if you're getting super crazy, but nothing one doesn't learn in junior high.

Pilot in training update. 3.2 hours so far!

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I think training the way you'll fly makes a lot of sense. And if you'll be using an ipad w/ FF, you should train with it. You can still learn dead reckoning, pilotage, tracking VOR etc. Learning those skills aren't reserved for use with paper charts...

    Flying a 152?

I just got checked out in my clubs 152. After flying cherokees I about sent that thing into a stall rotating on take off. A lot more responsive. I found it much easier to land. At 6'2" and clydesdale weight, the joy of flying the 152 is there. Especially building hours at $25 less per hour...
