Here is the label for the "lap box" thingy from Staples.

    Cross Country Lap Box

Had this idea so thought I'd share for the new students out there. After fumbling with all the paraphernalia needed to go on a cross country I came up with a cheap way to keep all the items one might need, at the ready. I have a Cessna 150 so space is at a premium up front. I bought this...

    Memorable Resturants on/near field

    Making a new compass card

The compass card in my C150, the one printed on the bottom of the magnetic compass, is worn off and unreadable. I need to re do it. There is a compass rose at an airport not far from my home base and I can go there early in the AM to use that. Question: I see someone on Youtube doing it by...

    V is for VOR

Was having issues with my C150's VOR, recently. Could barely hear the morse code identifier and the indicator flag kept flipping from OFF to TO / FROM. I had helped my friend fix the VOR antenna on his 150 last year when the nylon insulator block at the top of the vertical fin cracked and one...

Yous pays your money, yous takes your chances

Had coffee with a buddy of mine, also a C150 owner. He has the L I have the M. On the way out to our cars I asked where he was off to. He took me over to his car, opened the trunk and showed me his plane's starter. Said it died and was taking it to an auto shop that repairs alternators. His A&P...

Another "Out of Annual" out-of-body, experience

I suppose if one could leave the tube covered all the time, this might work well. For me, I'd prefer to be able to fly and in order to do that I need the airspeed indicator to be working to make it legal. The 1/8" drill bit will not damage the tube if inserted gently, as I suggested, and...

Another "Out of Annual" out-of-body, experience

They were, in fact, 6-40 x 1/4" long flathead. I chose to use a hex head this time The head was a bit wider than the countersunk hole but worked fine. Easy to find on Ebay.

Another "Out of Annual" out-of-body, experience

Picked up a 12" long 1/8" drill bit for keep my pitot tube clean going forward. Exact size of the tube. Run it gently in and out with a few twists and it should take care of any debris that may find its way in there from flying or sitting.

    Equivalent automotive parts

If you check the specs of the continuous duty version, above, you will see it offers 200 amps. The one I just bought (for $15... not $5. Price went up from last year, it seams) is rated 300 amps continuous. Remember a golf cart solenoid is on all the time, when the cart is running. If you...

Nose strut quick fix, overlooked on annual

I spent the other day doing a thorough cleaning of my C150's nose strut. It was covered with oil and dirt. Since the cowling was still off from the annual (don't get me started) I figured it would be easier to work on, this way. I noticed some side-to-side play in that middle linkage point, so...

Another "Out of Annual" out-of-body, experience

So, I had planned on taking my C150 up early yesterday morning. First flight since getting it out of annual. My "annual from hell", but you all know that. So, there I am getting ready to do a short field take off from this 2200' runway. Off I go barreling down the runway when I notice my...

Rotting fuel connection worth a check

Yah, you're right. Having gasoline sloshing around the wing... maybe running down to the electrical connection for the indicator lights is no bid deal. Frankly, I don't know why I even bother to post these tips.

Rotting fuel connection worth a check

When next you are having your plane inspected... or if you have noting better to do and you want to do it yourself, I have another one for you. This one involves that pain in the butt fuel overflow on the Cessna 150 and, I assume, on other models, as well. That's the one where your $6.00...

    Mechanic madness

Like I said, the AI never inspected my plane. He had the A&P do it all.

    Mechanic madness

An AI has to be an A&P first, correct? So, he should be signing off the whole deal not asking the A&P to do part of it. I'm concerned this 100 hour signoff will come back to haunt me later on. Will someone question why it's there? Why is the engine and prop 100 hour if, in my case, I'm only...

    Mechanic madness

After more than a month of hell from these two mechanics I'm hoping to get my log book signoff tomorrow. Now, I'm being told, I will get an annual signoff from the IA and a 100 hour signoff from the AP who actually did all the inspection work. Is this correct in that this is a my private...

    Looking at a C150

I'll just add my 2 cents to try and help this guy out. Bought my late 1975 150M, the last of the 150 series before the 152 came out, for $15K two years ago this past May. The guy that sold it to me flipped it. He paid $8K for it a few months prior. It was not flown and out of annual for two...

    Equivalent automotive parts

There are so many parts on these pre-1980 planes that can be sourced for way less that are identical to what is now on there. Someone should make up a list that we can all add to as we find suitable replacements. I'll toss in two that I'm aware of for my 150... The ground/bonding strap from...

Cessna carb heat linkage issue warning

Cessna150M from late 1975 This is one version of the repair/replacement part from Aircraft Spruce. The lever appears welded to the shaft. The locking nut is now on the opposite side where the cotter pin is. It includes new style bushings, which are also a source of wear. This one is $100 but...
