    Flap settings on takeoff?

In the 182 on "normal" runways I always use 10 degrees.

    Thoughts! $390k 74 206?!?!?

We bought a 1979 182Q with WASS GPS, MFD, STEC-50X, honest 800hr engine, NDH, 10/10 interior and paint from "this" dealer 10 years ago for < $100k. The only major AMU's sunk into it since then was for a new ADSB-out transponder. And I do feel like this 206 is overpriced. FWIW.

Keep hand held microphone and cabin speaker or not

During preflight it's nice to hear ATIS over the speaker, or call for fuel, without having to put on my headphones to hear the audio..

Good sunglasses that fit well under N/C headsets..

Looks like new lenses one way or another will be a good thing to try first in my case- thanks all!

Good sunglasses that fit well under N/C headsets..

I would also like to switch from "chrome" finish frames to black or matte black... But in the end if I might be willing to forgo that..!

Good sunglasses that fit well under N/C headsets..

I have had a pair of Randolph Engineering sunglasses with cable temples that are about 15 years old. They have enough scratches now in the glass that I'd like to replace them. I have never been able to find a pair that fits/functions as well as these do- unfortunately Randolph no longer offers...

    entering airways on 430/530...?

No, but going from the 182 to a 310 is.

    entering airways on 430/530...?

I've been flying behind a GNS480 for 10+ years and maybe about to switch to an airplane that has a GNS430. It's common where I fly to get clearances involving multiple airways with many fix turns within each airway. I understand the 430 cannot accept airway input- am I going to be in for a big...

Tips on transitioning from steam six pack to EFIS

I have spent the past 10+ years flying VFR/IFR in a 182 behind a "steam" six pack, with a Garmin (Apollo) GNS 480/Stec 55X fully coupled autopilot (20+ years before that behind "steam" gauges and VOR/ILS/DME equipment with no AP). It's looking like I may soon be flying behing a G500 PFD/MFD...

Going for 3rd class renewal after taking no-fly meds for sciatica.

Ok re-thinking the altitude thing- it is a NA 310 that does have oxygen/masks, but realistically I will probably prefer to just use nasal cannulas which will limit me to 18,000 anyway.. So maybe I just do basic med to keep things easy for now, and 3 years from now if feel the need I can go back...

Going for 3rd class renewal after taking no-fly meds for sciatica.

Service ceiling on the "new" airplane is 23,500ft- that's the main reason.

Going for 3rd class renewal after taking no-fly meds for sciatica.

My medical was due for renewal in November of 2019. Just before renewal I pulled a muscle in my lower back which lead to sciatica. The pain was so severe that my GP prescribed two drugs to try independently of each other- Gabapentin and Cyclobenzaprine. I found the Gabapentin to be very...

    Vortex generators explained

At about 5:52 in the video you can see how much of a beating the horizontal stabilizer takes presumably from all the crap that kicks up going in and out of all those unimproved back country locations. Yikes!

Family of four- upgrade from C182?

I have been flying a well equipped 1979 Cessna 182 regularly for the past 15 years. We have a 7 and 10 year old that keep growing. We have basically been fine with the 182- we can pack up the whole family plus a bunch of bags and comfortably fly IFR 350-400NM in a reasonable amount of time.. But...

    Wingsuit Pilot Crashes

Faster can be relative- if we're talking faster across the ground, then adding the wing probably does increase speed. But if we're just measuring vertical velocity then it would slow you down to some extent- probably.

Lightspeed Zulu headset sticky control box fix?

Thanks all- I did the rubbing alcohol thing. After about 10 minutes it was pretty clean, but I went a full 15 to get it looking like shiny smooth new plastic.

Lightspeed Zulu headset sticky control box fix?

I have an original Lightspeed Zulu headset that suffers from degradation of the coating on the 'control' unit resulting in a very sticky/tacky surface to the touch. Has anyone figured out a DIY solution to this? I'm guessing Lightspeed will not help out since the Zulu is very old now.. (Is this...

    AOPA closing forums

Their forums were the main motivation for me to keep renewing. I do appreciate the political action in support of GA side of them, but now without the forums I will happily write to my congress reps myself, cancel my membership, and apply that extra $80/year to avgas!
