    April fools joke on wife

My wife got me today. She never pulls jokes on me but got me today. We were swimming in pool and she said oh my gosh. You've got a big blotch of purple on back of your head. I'm trying to think what I might have got in and rubbing my head to see if whatever would come off. Then she laughed. A lot.

    Piper vs Cessna steering

I have Cessna,s and one Piper. I've always hated th ground steering on the Piper. It's so sensitive I have to have to basically stand on the petals to keep it going straight. Just a hair lets it swerve. Wish I could make it more like the Cessna steering.

Buying plane from seller who did inspections

I've seen both ways. Usually pretty apparent which you have with few minutes of inspection. I would tend to be more interested as almost all of the ap,ia's I know take really good care of their planes and some even put the latest things on to show customers. I'd be very interested

    Piper as a newbie owner?

I started a trucking company years ago and was told if I couldn't buy new I sure couldn't afford to buy old. It didn't take me many years or repairs to figure that out. Every time I upgraded trucks I improved my bottom line. I think you are better off to buy something a little nicer even if you...

Taking a shortcut across the Gulf of Mexico

I fly from Tampa thru New Orleans fairly often when I go that way. I file direct Tampa to west Texas. About half the time I get it and other half the moa,s are active in the gulf and they vector me way to the north. I do stay pretty high up which gives me pretty good gliding distance if necessary.

    Piper as a newbie owner?

The deb is going to be much more fun to fly and much faster than most pipers. If you get a original low hp io470 you can burn auto gas. It's going to cost you same or less to fly per mile but your annuals and maintenance will be about double. That's not to say you will have to spend bunch of...

    Piper as a newbie owner?

They always say to buy your last airplane first. My experience was starting out in slow planes. 172, Cherokee 140, Grumman traveler, tomahawk and 150. All but the first were years ago when I was in military. When I had time and money years later I bought a 172 and finished my pp. then of course...

    Piper as a newbie owner?

Myself when I look for a plane I look first for avionics it has. I also want a two axis autopilot at least. That's 15 to 40g. Then I proceed to airframe and paint and interior. My least concern is usually the engine. If it's high time I want some consideration for hrs or years, but, I don't mind...

    Piper as a newbie owner?

I'm guessing to rebuild a small lycoming or continental your going to have minimum of 25000 to 40000 in it. Now a 0-320 can be rebuilt for less. Maybe as low as 13000 without rebuilding the peripherals and labor to r&r. But most jobs are going to cost closer to the higher range. Also just...

    Somewhere to start

Buy one with approved gps and auto pilot which should get you into a plane you can fly for years. Also nice to buy one already ads-b setup so you don't have to bite that bullet. Much cheaper to buy everything allready installed in plane. Will save you lot of money in long run.

    Piper as a newbie owner?

If I was looking for the planes mostly mentioned I would probably go with the arrow. My reasoning is that you will probably find a arrow with better avionics, decent gps, decent radios. Also good chance it will have a autopilot. Being a retract and having no wheel pants would make it better for...

Am I oldschool for prefering to train on the steam guages?

I mostly learned ifr flying with steam gauges but my cross country plane had a g1000. I was pretty familiar with g1000 so wasn't much to transition to it. I took test in a steam warrior with fsdo examiner. He asked why I took test with steam if my cross country plane was glass. He said far was...

    high performance endorsement (rant)

Pretty sure I got my hp endorsement during pp training as I owned a commanche then. It wasn't a big deal but with learning to fly and going from a 172 it was slightly daunting with the other additional systems on the commanche. 172 seemed much easier after flying.

    high performance endorsement (rant)

I think the high performance endorsement is a license to learn just like the rest. While it is very easy to manage a Cessna 182 or a Piper 235, it gets little more involved when you bring in turbos and bunch more speed and altitude. It's nice to get comfortable to it in stages. A real high...

    high performance endorsement (rant)

I think it's a good endorsement no matter what your rating. In fact I think they should go further in depth. 201hp might be a low choice, but you don't have to get much more power to start getting in some pretty fast planes. Maybe they should have a endorsement for any plane that cruises over...

    Grumman aa1b operating costs.

About the same as a 172 or Cherokee.

Completed the King Schools ground training tonight and need some advice/thoughts.

I think everybody gets frustrated like this at some point in training. For me I can study like crazy and not get a good grasp on it. However if someone reads it to me or presents it to me I can usually recite it back word for word and remember it. Watching it on a cd doesn't cut it for me...
