Sounds like it was a good learning experience. There will be simular experiences in future. Learning to fly go's long after receiving you permit to fly. My limits are far beyond what they were at your level of experience, but, I still have limits and I'm still learning and expanding those limits.

I've probably owned 15 planes and I can tell you your budget is going to be hard to work with for any of them. My hanger bills alone eat up your budget. There was a club membership available in Denton area that would probably fit much better for now.

Without more info hard to guess. If it's been sitting for several years or has corrosion and was for parts I personally would only figure around 8000$. For fixing up in just poor shape, maybe 15000$. Might not get, but oh well.

Now you have me rethinking my plan to install a gtn750 this winter. Was thinking of putting in number one gps position and move the 530 to position 2. Does garmin have a extended warranty or something that is affordable?

To me the avionics in a plane decide if I even want to look further in to its specs. They are the most expensive thing with a really poor return on your investment. Imo.
