Garmin will continue to support GNS-4XX/5XX for years to come

25 years? In urban rail signalling typical contracts requires 30-40 years of support. To do that you do the calc of number of unit vs failure rates and if needed a stock of parts is purchased to support for the duration of the required life span. So garmin doing 25 years is great and all but...

SVB: Biggest bank failure since '08

Some of the post here really have me scratching my head. Fractional reserve banking existed before government regulation. You are talking centuries of history. This fundamental customs predates existence of the USA. And now suddenly some of the masses realizes “oh” and get worked up.

    London/Paris Vacation, must see places?(NA)

In another note about the trip and for less culturally/politically ambiguous sites than the British Museum, why not go see stuff outside of London? Hampton Court is a good visit and the train ride out is easy as long as there's no strike. For another location of interesting artifacts they maybe...

    London/Paris Vacation, must see places?(NA)

What's "not serious" and "hilarious" is their reasons for not giving any of it back. A lot of arguments that essentially tries to suggests they are better care takers than the colonials they stole from, and that more people see it at the BM than if it goes back to the cultures the artifacts came...

    I went truck shopping yesterday

Status and image has been part of car industry since its inception. Otherwise I suspect 80% or more of buyers don’t need anything more than a Corolla.

    I went truck shopping yesterday

You can wait, or maybe no one can. It’s either the price will come down cause of a big recession but then there could be more to worry about. Or, this is the new normal. The American car makers aren’t hunting for volumes like they used to. These are a desirable vehicles now especially the...

    ForeFlight Sentry

We were also looking at the tailbeaconX a while back. All the shops were pretty dismissive. Don’t know if there’s something they know about the company we don’t.

    London/Paris Vacation, must see places?(NA)

No one tried to pick pocket us in London. Someone tried the distraction thing at Versailles though, but I realize what they were trying immediately. Overall the feeling of Paris for us was that we didn’t enjoy it as much.

They told me to turn on airplane mode then reenable wifi. This worked for the most part. My ahrs is still all drifty thought. Mostly my suggestion would still be to get another device.

    Want to start flying…

Everyone says fly multiple times a week. Not all of us can do that. I am finding the final stretch with specific procedures the issue. The flying part is fine I go couple weeks and come back and my instructor says hands and feet’s are all there, but then small things creeps up that needs...

How to transition from renting trainers to purchasing a larger plane?

I don’t know, makes sense to me vs paying for over priced land yachts.

    Want to start flying…

LOL sounds like the guy I have now. Although I don’t mind paying him his fee as he is very detailed on the preflight and post flight stuff which I feel will help me finish. I am almost there anyhow even with the bad weather. Just a couple things to fix and then check ride soon hopefully.

Unless the most senior instructor is a career instructor. They do exist where they have family commitments tying them down to a location. I know of three at the local school.

How to transition from renting trainers to purchasing a larger plane?

First, find a good mechanic. Better yet find two or three in your area who’d work with you. Our experience has been that one guy doesn’t have all the answers. Our usual guy is experienced and is also a pilot who fly and fixes Baslers out in the weirdest places, but when we had engine vibrations...

    Want to start flying…

Are you renting? Which btw is how you should start because owning is an order of magnitude more complicated than renting. If renting, all you really need is check the logs, do the walk around, oil and fuel checks, plus the run up. As long as you aren’t renting from a place not following the...

    Want to start flying…

The pilot. Yes planes can have failures, but the weakest link are the humans. There is always going to be imho a certain acceptance of the risk when you launch into the sky with one piston engine. You might want to make your peace with that than thinking too much about crashing.

The machines are coming for our jobs

There are just people who are not suited to the world we created and are creating for the future. We evolve slower than the machines we are making to replace some of our jobs. Take software dev, even this kind of job is becoming at risk. Today you can get code snippet suggested to you. It’s...

    Engine vibration

Don't forget the valves. We had vibration issues that our own mechanic didn't know much about, went to a large shop and they spent 2 days checking the valves and nothing. We thought maybe do the prop balancing will minimize it, ran around looking for someone to do it as big shop kept pushing us...
