    Flight following questions

Thanks for the replies. A follow up question: It seems about a third of the time, the heavies will also check in with a heading -- is that a standard requirement at any point? I only rarely hear a controller give a "say heading" request.

    ugh, I'm driving myself nutz

I'd look at two things. First, what is the cost difference (is it enough to matter?) and also is the cost difference enough to make up for the time lost during the drive. Secondly, what do you want to be flying? If you like one aircraft more than another, then that should also play into the...

    Flight following questions

    1. When being advised to change frequency, usually it is to contact a new controller on the different frequency, but occasionally I've noticed that one controller may handle multiple center frequencies. When getting "Bugsmasher 123AB change to my frequency 123.45" is it appropriate to...

do you long XC pilots ever get used to it?

:eek::hairraise::D:rofl: That just has to be autocorrect gone very, very wrong...

    T minus 22 hours 45 minutes

The most expensive flight you'll ever take. Relax! lol The bigger issue, IMHO, is that you need to make sure whoever you are working with is a good fit. Starting out, everyone drinks from a fire hose, so you'll want to make sure you are working with someone good to help you through the...

    New student with a question

Having the lessons recorded can be a good teaching tool. They sure helped me pull things together. Not saying that I would throw all of them on YouTube though!

    NDB approaches

My issue, FWIW, is getting lined up on a bearing. Other than that, NDB approaches seem to be pretty easy...

    NDB approaches

Sure isn't, but since my original question was in respect to instrument check ride prep, Ron's pertinent responses sure have been appreciated.

    Newly-minted Private Pilot!

My PM'd recommendation for Rocky Mountain Flight School still stands: http://www.rmflight.com Also, there's a crosswind sim there that was very helpful: http://www.flightlineaerialservices.com/index.html

    NDB approaches

Jumped in the sim today to go over NDB approaches, which I had never done before. My performance was dismal: I felt like I was trying to play hockey with a football bat. :mad2: Granted, NDB's are falling out of favor, but there are two within a short flight of KAPA. I'd gotten a couple...

    carb ice?

BTDT. I noticed an unexplained RPM drop in straight and level flight. I immediately knew what it was and applied carb heat. I'm glad a very experienced pilot let me know what I expect, because right after full carb heat the engine started running rougher for a few seconds. I decided to...

    A frustrated PPL student

    1. Being inconsistent at 13 hours is normal. That's all part of the learning process. I took more hours to solo than some people take to get their PPL. My pilot's certificate looks the same as theirs. 2. Having a new instructor in itself isn't a bad thing. When they're taking over too often...

Final Tower Closure Information Released by FAA

Same here. The only thing that I can possibly think of that would have kept it open is the proximity to KDEN.

Whether to wait or find a new CFI...

Yup, any downsides to working with a different CFI will be far outweighed by the problems caused by not flying that long. Find another CFI and get it done! You should be able to be done by the time he's back...
