New EPA proposed regs for aircraft

Good thing I don't fly high enough to pull contrails.

    How stupid is this?

Yeah that's pretty stupid. We hot pump all the time, but the pilots stay at the controls and the ground crew is trained for it. That's a helluva big difference from what you're describing for that R44.

    Xplane 11 best budget computer.

PilotEdge at this point is basically all of Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico west to the Pacific. You can get your choice of either the LA Basin-Los Vegas-San Diego area or everything else for $19.95 per month, or $34.95 for everything. Overall not a bad coverage area.

    Tr#mp TFR bust

I don't think the Blackhawk can do more than about 200 knots or so. Good luck catching up to a Baron or 310 in that. Meantime not much that can outrun an Eagle or Viper.

    Xplane 11 best budget computer.

There's a stock 430 in many of the included planes, but you can add a 530 for about $25. Figure five minutes for install.

    172 or 182 for PPL

I’ll put in my vote for a 182. Flying in western mountains in summer and that extra power will come in handy during those high DA days. Plenty of people manage just fine in a 172 in such conditions but if you can swing a 182, why not?

    Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

Redbird uses P3D, but adding on Pilot Edge might take it out of the BATD category. Pretty sure it would have to be baked in from the factory.

    Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

I really like the Realsimgear stuff. I haven’t flown with the real GTNs, just played around a bit at work, but they really seem to do just fine. The only thing the simulator won’t do is pinch and zoom. With the GTN you do need to buy an add on as XPlane doesn’t have that integrated. With a...

    Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

Downside to the Redbird is that you can't fly a Cub from grass strips one day and a 777 from San Francisco to Tokyo the next on the same machine. They're different goals and each have their place. I put my machine together for about $2500, not counting the RealSimGear GTN, GNC and G5...

    EarthX Certified Aircraft

Nothing we do while alive is completely green, but considering how bad oil production is it’s still a step in the right direction. And likely in five years, certainly within ten, lithium will be able to be recycled from batteries on a profitable level.

P-51 engine out, off field landing pilot discusses

I remember that it was mentioned in passing but not on its own post. The AOPA safety videos are always worth a watch.

If your plane (or rental) were a car

I would think the Ercoupe would be more of a business coupe. But I like your choice too, good pair!

What Is This Plane Up To Over Portland?

Portland Police had a 172 for quite awhile. I wonder if they upgraded to a 182 in the last year or so.

Poll: Lottery Winner Pick One: Mustang (P51-D) or Corsair(F4U)

Lindberg also visited P-38 squadrons, and on one mission while he was "observing" he shot down a Ki-51 Sonia scout plane. He definitely helped the Marines and Air Force squadrons to extend their combat range.

Poll: Lottery Winner Pick One: Mustang (P51-D) or Corsair(F4U)

It is likely this video, starting at about the 13:30 mark. All around excellent video about emergencies in flight, discussing a P-51 engine out incident.

    Is a $315k 1954 Cessna 180 Market Top?

Think I’d rather go for a 182 or even 206 for half that and use the extra money to keep it hangared and fueled for quite awhile.

Poll: Lottery Winner Pick One: Mustang (P51-D) or Corsair(F4U)

If we’re able to pick Mustang versions, I’ll be somewhat contrary and pick the A-36 Apache. Basically an early P-51A with speed brakes and hardpoints. Still scoots just fine at lower latitudes.
