Help me spend up to 165k

@Supereri yeah, do that. It's a real wake up call. I had to walk away from a sweetheart '69 210 with a 750, new interior, new paint and a recently replaced spar cause the insurance rate was 4x a similarly priced 182.

    Have aircraft sales/transactions slowed?

Part of that is we're still in peak pricing range. Much like houses in 2004, I would not expect a change to occur for another few years.

Help me spend up to 165k

As someone who owns a Cessna 205, you'll have CG issues unless you always have pax. I'm 165 and at full fuel (84gal LR tanks) anyone in the co-pilots seat over 165lbs pushes us past CG. I carry 2 50lbs boat ballast bags in the very rear most seats for days without the family. For your first...

    Air-to-Air Waco Taperwing at Oshkosh

One more reason I have to convince my wife to let me get a biplane once the kids are grown and out of the house.

Capital gains on personal aircraft sale

That only applies to the extremely wealthy. Or as one person put it, "Why are Musk's assets not 'real' for taxes but real enough to buy Twitter?" But seriously, talk to a CPA if its more than $5k. A 1hr consultation will cost less in the penalties and fines the IRS would charge.

    KMA24 w/ Intercom Replacement

I don't want to keep the PM3000. I just want a quick fix. There's no quick on this one, I'm afraid

    KMA24 w/ Intercom Replacement

@Jesse Saint , thanks for that. Guess if I'm going to have to have something done right, might as well spring for the 8000. Hopefully I can coast on this KMA24 for a little longer before it completely fails.

    KMA24 w/ Intercom Replacement

I have a PS Engineering (PM3000) intercom wired to my KMA24. I hate that I can only listen or transmit on either COM 1 or COM 2 in my headset. If I want to hear both, one has to be by speaker. If I bought a PMA7000- unit and had someone properly credentialed slide it in, e.g. leaving the PM3000)...

    Best Replacement for Avidyne EX500?

It is funny how the EX-500 hit a sweet spot for an MFD and no one has thought to go after that niche. Perhaps too niche?

    Let's build a panel

@Hector Parra, yeah i went from a "must have 900" to a "upgrade to 830 sounds fine to me" real fast. My primary needles are next to useless but the MP and RPM are just fine. So i could, if i wanted,, just deal with the 700 fkr the next few years.

    Let's build a panel

Chiming in with @Salty, i am getting quotes of ~30k for a G3X w/ G5 backup on a certified plane and ~20k for Aspen 1000 + STEC integration. For primary engine monitor I'm getting 13-15k depending on options on a JPI 900, I have a 700 w/ FF. so yeah, labor and those hidden boxes add up fast...

Looking for an avionics tech in central NJ

Can you get someone to rig up a steam gage alt, speed and a ferry permit? Those pictures say "this should be at a shop." You're going to have a hard time finding someone to spend that much time at your airfield in your hangar given the work backlogs all the shops are facing here.

    that old plane smell

The carpet was redone less than 20 years ago. It's immaculate. I'm actually blown away with the quality of the job they did. Guess this is better than "replace the hoses" or pull the panel to clean.

    that old plane smell

My 1964 plane has what I can only call a "old machine" smell. Reminds me of visiting an old Navy boat in NYC: steal, grease and oil. I don’t mind but my daughter comments every time; son pipes up too. It eminates from the pedals, control cables, hoses, old paint and firewall. I've taken some...

Underrated models/manufactures that we should consider

Socata TB-20, roomy and reasonably fast 4/5 seater. The manufacturer still makes the parts and the wing was assembled using the same tooling as the big boys over in France. Still, it is a low wing so you have to get over it...

What's new from the avionics expo?

I was not expecting anything, really, cause of supply constraints and all the general backlog of damn near everything. However, I read there is new stuff being showcased (https://aea.net/convention/2022/Press_newsitem.asp?ID=5078.) I just can't seem to find anything at all in the news or even...

Plane purchase without a In person inspection

I did. Owner was an A&P, the pictures spoke for themselves, and the plane was far enough away that if I was coming to see it I'd just fly it home. Given the history of the plane and a half decent prebuy it was a good decision.
