O-470 upgrades - I don't see how they can help you in cruise and cruise climb

Well... here's a Norland ready to go: https://www.barnstormers.com/classified-1803061-O-470-%E2%80%9CNorland-Conversion%E2%80%9D.html?catid=17352

O-470 upgrades - I don't see how they can help you in cruise and cruise climb

The JJ just allows the engine to be run continuously at 2600RPM at higher compression. I can't comment on fuel use but I suspect it is higher at those RPM as normal fuel use at take off is ...egregious? The Norland uses the higher compression IO-470 that is rated at 260hp. Given that I fly a...

O-470 upgrades - I don't see how they can help you in cruise and cruise climb

The Norland does more than bump the redline. The O-470 only produces 230HP at 2600RPM. In cruise that means you are making less. The Norland bumps it to 260hp at 2600RPM and you will see more HP at 23 squared. We priced out the Norland when our club plane needed an overhaul. Reach out to them...

    GPS antenna paint

I believe I would be asking the paint shop to trade you for a slightly used but working GPS antenna. Mistakes happen.

JPI EDM 700 vs Insight G2

I have a JPI 700, I've seriously considered upgrading to a 730 for the larger real estate. It's a pita to step through everything. I would go for something larger and I have good eyesight.

Should I not own if I can’t find hangar space?

The wait list for a hangar is insane by me. I had been waiting forever when the right plane came up. I jumped. What I don't miss is waiting. Don't let a hangar stop you. Eventually you'll get one.

    Aspen PFD 1000 Pro

the non pro versions suffered from this. Something about the feed from the pitot tube or static air. I can't remember exactly. They fixed it only in the pro.

A 525HP Murphy Moose on floats

The floats are too small. The CG is too far forward. How can I tell? The tips of the floats keep dipping into the water. He even admits he needs ballast. That'd do a lot to fix the anemic take off. Then again, I don't believe it's making the full 525hp.

Stay away of FlightLevel Aviation / Chris LaPlante at KOWD

It's posts like these where I count myself lucky. Hope you are finally enjoying your bird. And if luck holds, you went to a real mechanic that put the tail on facing the right way. I can't believe how many Mooney I've seen with it on backwards.

    Prices are coming down

That wage growth is just following the price of housing/rent and groceries. It ain't going to stoke inflation if there's no more to spend on anything else. That said, GA prices may soften but they're here to dtay.

    Opinions on a C172C purchase

@Swale a 172C is a great plane and that engine isn't as scary as others have said. However, this plane in the current shape and with current avionics sounds like it's for time building, not owning. For time builders, it is priced right. But... if you have time and are handy 1. Strip the paint...

Starting to look at what I want and need some thoughts

I bought a Cessna 205 because I have to haul 5 ppl 50% of the time and 4 30%. Prior to adding a 5th person i was looking at and nearly bought a TB20. They are roomy, reasonably fast, still factory supported, and have the most unique key to unlock the plane. Here is a '99 TB20 with dual GI-275...

Which panel layout would you choose?

If you're going to wind up with a blocked off hole (like me temporarily) get a CO detector.

the Turbo 182 is back in production

They probably are thinking they'll sell all of 3-10 for all of 2024; less for 2025. It will have far less economies of scale compared with even the anemic production at Cirrus.

    Horten HX-2 Flying wing

there's nothing great about biplanes either and yet... I will own a Staggerwing or biplane or some hotrod LSA one day when the family is grown. a flying wing is just cool. I'd own one too if it fit the mission.

    What would you do

I am very budget conscious with my family. My money goes towards them, first and myself, last. So unless the 750 fits in your budget I would say rewire the 530W.

    For Sale Whelen G3 Par-36

I went ahead and bought the G3 landing and taxi lights. Turns out, my mechanic had already installed lights for me. So now I've got a brand new, still in box pair. I'm in North NJ and can probably fly 'em over to you or half way. Have all receipts. $250/each

    Diversity

Damn, I was able to pick up a lynx-9000d+ for ~4.5k and the install is around 20hrs. So another screen, all sorts of features, the non-adsb traffic detection, access to Canadian airspace assured, and cheaper than the Garmin diversity. I see more for sale, just have to make sure you get all parts.
