Flying club members/owners: what’s your AOG policy?

Your club policy should cover these contingencies. There should be a reasonable recovery time/cost stipulation, waiver of lost fees/expenses (i.e. hotel or other,) and who chooses the mechanic. I own my plane and belong to a club. For us, pilot is responsible for everything except mx, unless it...

How important is a paint job?

My '64 has original paint. There are spots where it has faded but it still is good. That's how you know it has been treated with love. That and the way they did the engine overhaul. Paint like that says "I was used as a time builder and I wanted to minimize my expenses."

Help me make my Cherokee bigger

I've been through a +2 with a 182, more than enough baggage. We still ran out of space. Car seats eat up so much room and diapers are just bulky. 3 years later and a bigger plane we still fill it up. Just think long and hard what you can leave for a day trip and what you can FedEx for a...

182Q upgrade Avionics, or upgrade to 182T?

Regarding 6 seats... My before purchase flying was 4ppl more than 50% of the time with car seats and all the kid crap you could stuff in. Now it's 5ppl, so I need the extra row. If my flying had been different, I would have gone with a 182-182D. Don't "upgrade" to a 6 seater unless you...

    1965 C-150 Pre-Buy Result

I have a '64 Cessna and it has a spot on a non-structural portion of one wing. Scrubbed and treated, it looks like every other plane on the inside of the wing at my airport. The cracking can be stop drilled and probably isn't a worry. Hiw bad is the corrosion on the bottom? That would worry me...

    US aircraft Expo

I go to "The Elite" thing up here by NYC. Even if it's Cirrus, Beechcraft, Piper and Cub Crafters there's other stuff. Think all the fancy sports cars i can't afford plus the fancy RV with helicopter landing pads I also can't afford, pianos I can't afford, and vacation getaways that I can't afford..

    Canards and the Cessna 182

Pretty sure he's just working through his order backlog before calling it. Would love to see a kit like what they make in the EAB world.

    VARMA

The door handles on my plane are car parts. For 35x the price of the same serial number product i can get an FAA approved piece. Now I can get the part from the auto store. It's about time. I just spent several hundred dollars on a part for my seat that shouldn't cost half that. Rock on EAA.

    Bonanza V-Tail or Mooney M20x or ??

If you don't mind a loud cabin, Cessna retract "fun," more fuel flow than knots, and all the joys of stuff crammed in every corner sometimes just done that way to screw with you (like, really!?)... then might I also suggest a 337? Centerline thrust is "safer" but it's still a twin. Brokers have...

    TR182 Restoration

When I was first buying my quote for retracts were more than 2x my quote for a similarly priced 182, closer to 3x actually. I have 6 seats in my Cessna with fixed gear and I'm still paying a 50% premium. Definitely get a quote from a broker as part of your due diligence. I had to walk from a...

    Services at air shows

I once showed this island get away in Belize to my wife. She was gung-ho for it all the way until she discovered they had "campground" bathrooms, e.g. an old fashioned outhouse. I'd ask yours before you get too whimsical with your flying fantasies.

Can I Pass My Medical While On Suboxone And AntiDepressants

I don't even know if you can take a sport pilot route. You will have to disclose those drugs and diagnoses to the FAA. Then you will have to wait for them to get their heads out of their assessment and come to a modern understanding of treatment vs career implications.

    TKM has closed down

Avidyne has done more than the IFD units. The G1000 usurped them in the Cirrus models. Here's hoping Avidyne can keep it up and we're not all relegated to Garmin or Dynon. I definitely want a third player in this market.
