    New to flying

Healthy as this horse? May have some problems... Hah! Just kidding; welcome to the gang!

    Daily Pic

I took a ton of pictures at EAA Air Venture Oshkosh 2015. Here is the album that has the best ones in it! The images are too large for me to post and too big of a headache to edit, so here is the link to the Full Imgur Album. Enjoy!

    A good water landing

Practicing those turns around a point a little too low? :rolleyes2:

    0-320 H2AD mag issues?

We had this issue for awhile as well. We had to get the plugs cleaned every 5-10 hours due to an oil leak and unseated rings. If it keeps happening, it wouldn't hurt to have the cylinders rebuilt or have rings replaced.

    Altimeter Oscillation - Any Ideas?

We've consulted our maintenance manual and it's unfortunately saying that's a possibility as well. We're going to drain the lines and fly it again to see if that helps. If not, we'll probably have the whole system examined just to be safe.

    CFI checkride advice?

I've heard so many horror stories about CFI checkrides. The worst I've heard is how about examiners may try to discourage you. Don't let them. You got this!

    Altimeter Oscillation - Any Ideas?

This is what I was leaning towards. We had some water in one of our static ports once, but didn't pay it attention because it didn't effect us once we took off. Do you think the water has made its way into the instrument yet? If so, what damage could it do to the instrument?

    Altimeter Oscillation - Any Ideas?

My father and I were on our way back from a short dinner-hop last night (as a good-tasting way for me to build some time) and we were on an IFR flight plan. At the time of this story, we were in Visual Conditions and kept visual for the remainder of the flight. About half way through the...

Taking my IFR Check ride tomorrow and I'm a little nervous!!

This is what my PPL DPE told me before we even started. She said something along the lines of: "Number one, the PTS is not looking for perfection. Number two, no pilot is perfect, especially on check-ride day." Went off without a hitch! I'm looking forward for an update on your checkride, OP!

    Lessons from the Hangar

Hey Jim! I've actually done my only grass landings at Wolf River. I fly right out of KOLV almost every day. We took it to Spain.

    The Little Prince

I've read the book in its original French. It's a pretty fun story to go through. I can't wait to see the movie when it comes out!

    Tall Pilots

My 6 foot 4 inches flight instructor flew C-152s with me all through my training. When we got the chance to fly in my Grumman Tiger, he flew that thing with the seat all the way back and was much more comfortable!

    "Deadliest Job Interview"...

There's another similar show that the BBC (I think) put out called The Worst Place to be a Pilot. It's a bunch of English guys flying around Indonesia. Kinda dramatized, but I liked it!

    Lessons from the Hangar

Thanks for the positive responses, guys! I'm glad I'm now in the club that appreciates owners being involved in the maintenance. :) We've actually thought about this, and it's a possibility! Thank you for linking that! We are looking over it right now. While we're not entirely...

    Checkride dress code

Not the question we deserve, but the question we need to know.

    Lessons from the Hangar

Exactly; I'm excited for the next annual because I'll be doing the owner-assisted as well. I've gotta wait until August for that one though.

I'm coming up on mine as well and this thread is stressing me out! :P Good luck! :D

    Lessons from the Hangar

Unlike many of the stories in this section of the forum, this one doesn't include a mistake, violation, or any kind of "oops, I hope I don't do this again" moment. Back in September, my father and I went to Tampa, Florida to pick up our new aircraft: a Grumman Tiger. She's a beautiful bird...

Question on PIC and XC time for IFR rating

I'm glad this was the consensus we came to. Most of my XC is with a friend as I almost can't stand to fly alone!

Am I ready for the written exam (PPL)?

I had about the same scores when I did my PPL written and scored a 96. It's much easier (in my opinion) once you get in there and start taking it. I just took the IRA for my Instrument Rating and scored an 87 while making 85's and 90's on my practice tests. I found that the longer I waited...
